I just saw one of these in person, holy crap! They are gorgeous! Completely unexpected design from a Civic:

The pictures make them look very Accord-like, but in person, they look even better. At first glance, it looks a bit like a smaller Honda Crosstour (due to the stance), but it also has like an Infiniti/Lexus coupe-ish set of lines that really makes it stand out IRL. Honestly, it looked like a $30k car, not an $18k car. Comes in regular (158hp 2L manual or CVT) or turbo (174hp 1.5L CVT).

I agree that it looks great, and the performance of the 1.5L turbo is very impressive for an economy car (outperforming the previous gen Si). While Honda is not really doing poorly overall, this car should put quite a boost in their sales figures. I would have barely considered the previous generation because it was quite boring but I really like this one.

The funny thing is, it's not a very photogenic car, but in person, it's extremely eye-catching. The sedan is just really well-designed aesthetically imo.

I had a '13 Civic & liked it a lot. I think it had maybe 140hp? I bet a 174hp turbo would be a LOT of fun. Wasn't a fan of the CVT when I test-drove the HR-V tho, so I'm curious how it would handle in the Civic...

After the colossal f-up that was the 9G Civic, they had to really nail this one. I got to sit in one at the dealer when my Accord was in for warranty work - they did a really great job. Clean, simple, just enough technology to be connected with phones these days. That being said, sitting in the interior, while good quality, you still know you are in a Civic.

It'll definitely steal back some market share they lost.

It's so interesting seeing how things shift...if I was in the market for a $20k-ish car, I'd definitely go with that model (plus 31 city, 42 highway non-hybrid?!). Double the budget, I'd go with a Focus RS of all things...350hp AWD, awesome! Funny how the market can change over time.

I like nearly everything about it except for the rear end. Cross-tour junior. Those tail lights are the worst offenders. Needs a properly executed hatch that gives the rear less frump and cleans up those horrid tail lights. And while not horrible...why the ugly bar of chrome on the front end?

I like it overall. I feel like it's the odd combination of a large sedan's front and a hatchback's back. Overall better then last gen, and not bad

Because it's not a Miata? :awe:

Not sure where that came from. I don't own a Miata, never have owned a Miata and I don't seem to recall me ever touting the Miata here. It's a nice car and I'm sure it is fun to drive... am I missing something?

No, I just think the new Civic looks too busy. Over-styled if you will.

All new cars are too slab sided and tall to be truly good looking, and this one is no exception. The last nice looking cars were produced in the late 90s/early 00s before side impact and pedestrian safety regulations ruined everything.

All new cars have the same inflated hoodline and enormous side profile. Try as designers may to break up the surfaces with curves and trim pieces, they still end up looking like refrigerators. The one exception to this rule is perhaps Cadillac - their 'Art and Science' design language has worked really well, IMO. Lexus' new IS has done well with what they have to work with as well.

I own a 16 civic touring. Fuel economy is great and it's actually pretty quick. The transmission is actually not bad. Feels similar to a regular transmission. They increased the size from last gen so it's not too small. A little small but it's the price to pay for 42mpg. If you guys are impressed with the looks you should drive one. Its got a solid feel to it going down the road.

I'm actually very impressed by the new Civic. I'm actually considering one w/ the 1.5T model. I *really* wish it didn't come with a CVT (and that's the only option in sedan form)...that's just my only gripe with it. I'd rather have a regular automatic transmission with the expense of worse fuel economy.

I thought you had a mustang. Did you give that up or get a second car?

No no, it's just the standard answer here in the AT Garage. The answer is always Miata, doesn't matter what the question is

I'm not a big Honda fan but I think that while perhaps a little overdone the front is kinda cool.

That rear though is, well, butt ugly. Holy crap it looks like somebody went tripping on acid while putting lines and angles everywhere.

i have a hard time telling the civic and the accord apart from the front now. But both cars look great!
