I can forgive the G5 for being lower because you can just pull out the battery and pop in another and you're good to go. All phones should be like this. But they also need a small internal 300maH battery so you can remove and replace the battery without interruption.

As a LG G4 user with a spare battery, it's definitely a help to have the spare battery. But it is still frustrating to have seemingly rapid battery drain all the time and constant charging going on.

No matter how I setup my phone or what apps I have, I barely eek out 2.5 hours of SOT. Custom ROMs have helped a little bit, but it's really not that impressive.

Exactly my issue with the G3. Outdoors you must use full brightness = huge battery drain.

Same with mine, but I also don't go full brightness most time because it's usually too bright.

In real world experience I do think that iOS/iPhone are better at handling battery life, especially at standby. I could leave it all day with everything turned on getting emails, texts, etc and it still only drains a few percent. Heck, even using gps tracking apps doesnt seem to bother it that much (also rarely gets hot to the touch using that), and I've been able to navigate 4 hours using google maps with the screen on.

Whereas my androids I can watch the battery tick down every 10 minutes. 6.0 really only seems to help if you don't have any apps on it. And I've done this test with 2 note 5s. One sits on my desk and lasts 15 days accepting the random phone call, the other is my work phone that loses 30-40% a day even if I barely use it.

iOS/iPhone definately has better handling of battery life in standby. My iPhone 6s Plus can go for hours, when not in use, with barely 1 or 2% battery lost. Most of the time none.

Regardless of all the debate and bantering, we all are in need of better battery life regardless of how you slice it. Regardless of if they need better battery tech, or lower power consumption hardware, they need to get moving on it, and RIGHT NOW!!!!!

I have found myself in distress when going to auctions, in the bright daylight, you NEED to keep screen at full brightness. Then by the mid day, I have to scramble to find a way to charge.

On the flipside I have a Dell Latitude E6510 with an extended battery, and an additional bottom battery slice, I can get 11 hrs of constant use out of this non ergonomic behemoth!

Why not get one of these ?

Depends on a number of factors though.

For example, I forgot to plug in my Nexus 6P last night and it dropped 3% by the time I woke up but I have strong signal in my area. I know even iPhones run into trouble when signal is low.

I really hope Apple do a Samsung and make a slightly thicker phone with a bigger battery for their iphone 7. IMO phones that don't last a full day for general use should get an automatic -10 points in any review. I want to wake up in the morning, unplug my phone, and use it during the day and plug it in again when going to sleep. Thats the only time i want to charge it.

I wish that Samsung had been a bit braver and made the S7E a bit thicker. It's too thin as it is and a 4000mah battery would have been great.

If you don't play any games and have a rooted device I would undervolt and underclock the cpu and or the gpu. I also leave the GPS off unless I'm using the navi. It runs all day long on my screen time is quite high. Also look for any programs with wakelocks. I'd uninstall facebook and view it through the browser and not the app.

same phone and i kinda agree but at least it's not as bad as sonys z ultra. that (iirc) was thinner than the s7e (6.4" phone) and felt weird as it was too thin.

as far as battery life go, i sometimes copy a 100GB to my mSD to backup online (LTE faster than my home DSL) but unless i'm doing this my battery life is fine. i have gps enabled, max brightness always etc. BUT, a while back i found enabling power saver didn't (IMO) impact performance so tend to just leave it on tbh. doesn't seem to interfere with syncing gmail/fbook etc etc as i still get those notifications.

OT, main problem with the phone for me is finding a case like the s-view but with an actual hole so when you flip it over it doesn't cover the camera.

EDIT,

also have a credit card power bank and for long days (walking/tracking/taking pics) i carry a 10000mah wireless charger which i use as a wifi charger at home as well as for recharging my phone and my MS band (stupid thing has 4-5 hour battery life when in use).

I really cane the batteries in my phones and this is the first phone I've had that works for me without putting in a bigger after market battery (which is lucky as you cant change the one in this). I'm getting 16 hours with 6 hours of screen time. That said I'd be a lot happier if I could get another 4 hours of run time.
