2017 Mazda CX-9 is looking pretty good

I don't think that's terribly unusual in this size class, though.

You're limited to 4-5 people if you need to carry more than 2-3 carry-on bags. I'd imagine it will end up with the rear seat folded down 95% of the time.

I'm more curious about the real-world results/feel of the turbo SkyActiv motor, honestly.

I would pay up to a $5k premium to have a door that opens the entire side of the vehicle like that cut-away pic.

For being such a large SUV, it still looks like a mid-size from the pics. Good job, Mazda.

However, considering all the specs and seeing the Pilot at the dealerships, Honda FTW still.

That's called a minivan. It won't slide all the way though, but a lot of it.

I have a minivan and I would still would pay for the ability for the middle and rear passengers to enter simultaneously rather than through the middle seats. Even if it was just 1 side of the car, I'd take it.

When it comes to hauling people, hauling gear, access and best bang for the buck, there is NO replacement for the Minivan.

Never was and probably never will be.

That's pretty common. Even our huge GMC Acadia could only had about 14" behind the 3rd row. Gotta get the roof rack or hitch-mount cargo rack out.

The latest Mazda generation design is one of the best on the market, both inside and out. I'd be very curious to see the expected pricing and mpg numbers.

Very nice! But I agree with Vdubchaos, bring the MPV back. Since their separation from Ford, Mazda is bringing out some beautiful vehicles. "Keep 'em coming" is what I say.

Is that the one that's like a fat Honda Fit, but with a sliding door? My friends have one of those, and I didn't appreciate how awesome it was until I started having kids...no need for a jumbo-boat for a family vehicle

The old ones had regular door (more like a fit).

The later ones looked more like a minivan.

IMO

Looks nice

Come on Mazda, bring back MPV!!!

I like new MAzda styling, love the 3 and 6.

It would be nice to get an MPV revival but due to the lackluster sales of the 5 i have little hope of it occuring anytime soon.

I would love to see MPG numbers on this new CX-9 since the current one is lagging behind the competition.

Are the rear seats removeable? That's always handy if you dont need the seats, but could use the luggage capacity.

With the right tools and enough torque anything is removable.

As for built for removal, don't know yet but I'm curious as well.

LOL, true.

That's one huge plus for a lot of bigger SUVs like a Tahoe or Suburban because they usually make it easy to remove/replace bench seats or captain chairs based on need. In this case where the trunk is pretty much taken by the 3rd row, easily moving that row would be ideal and give a lot of flexibility.

A lot of crossovers like this that have a 3rd row will give the ability to fold nearly flat, if not entirely flat. So I'm not sure if removing them would be necessary depending on if it's designed the same way.

you're thinking of the mazda5 i bet. mildlyinteresting: the mazda5 is pretty much the same dimensions as the original dodge caravan.

L: 175.9 v. 180.3
W: 69.5 v 68.9
H: 64.4 v 63.6

while the mazda is longer i think the driver sits further back as well.
