Lol Celtics got fleeced. What a perfect trade for Cleveland. Not only did they get amazing value back, they also set themselves up perfectly for when Lebron leaves.
Celtics aren't going to beat the Warriors with what they've got (hell they may not even beat the Cavs), and now they no longer have a potential #1 pick either.
When I first saw the deal, I thought the Cavs did pretty well. But it depends on how you look at things. They're almost certainly a worse team without Kyrie (but this is moot because Kyrie demanded to be traded, so they had very little leverage). I like the Jae Crowder team-friendly contract and the Nets draft pick is most likely going to be top 4 in a good draft. Assuming his hip actually heals, Isaiah Thomas wants max money or close, and if I was the Cavs GM, I would let him walk. He's almost 30 years old and any lucrative contract you give him will not end well.
If the goal was to keep LeBron and win another title before 2020, this deal makes them worse off than last season. Now if as you alluded to, the sad reality is that the Cavs can't beat the Dubs next season and LeBron is likely to leave, this is a good deal for the franchise.
I am a little surprised Danny Ainge wouldn't deal a prized 1st rounder in any previous trade talks (Jimmy Butler or Paul George), but finally caved to get Kyrie for 2 seasons. A very interesting trade all around. We won't know the winner for a couple years, I suspect.
