After all he's been through with Washington, Cousins wasn't going to sign for less than $30 million per, and probably for more years, with even more guaranteed . . . and Smith is more athletic and led the NFL in QB rating. The Skins will get a compensatory 3rd round draft choice when Cousins signs elsewhere. It's not that bad a move for Washington.
Absolutely Cousins was done with Washington and for good reason. We'll see what he ends up getting, it frankly seems like they offered Smith such a deal out of spite to Cousins. If they hadn't been morons, they could've had Cousins for what they're paying Smith for and not have been in the "will they keep him or won't they" crap for the past 3 years.
Athleticism doesn't mean that much (and frankly is a liability for Smith as it means he gives up on plays quicker than he should and runs for no good reason, he doesn't run to extend plays like good QBs do, he gets scared and runs), and QB rating is meaningless when the QB wilts when the team needs him most like Smith does. Expect Smith to regress too (have fun dealing with his supporters saying that he'll start playing good around year 3 or 4 because he "needs time to learn the system" and various other excuses).
I disagree, its a terrible move for Washington, as they'll be just good enough that he'll keep them from looking for a long term solution at QB (so they'll probably end up reaching or giving up a bunch of picks to try and draft someone leading into Smith's 4th year, and then if he busts they'll be in QB turnover for who knows how long), but he won't help them win anything meaningful either. And they'll end up squandering what talent they do have, so they're gonna be in rebuild mode once they finally do move on from him. He simply put, is just a waste of time as far as winning a Super Bowl for an NFL team.
