Also....hahahahaha, holy shit. So they wouldn't pay Cousins but are gonna pay Alex Smith $23.4m per year with $71m guaranteed? Bwahahaha.
After all he's been through with Washington, Cousins wasn't going to sign for less than $30 million per, and probably for more years, with even more guaranteed . . . and Smith is more athletic and led the NFL in QB rating. The Skins will get a compensatory 3rd round draft choice when Cousins signs elsewhere. It's not that bad a move for Washington.

Absolutely Cousins was done with Washington and for good reason. We'll see what he ends up getting, it frankly seems like they offered Smith such a deal out of spite to Cousins. If they hadn't been morons, they could've had Cousins for what they're paying Smith for and not have been in the "will they keep him or won't they" crap for the past 3 years.

Athleticism doesn't mean that much (and frankly is a liability for Smith as it means he gives up on plays quicker than he should and runs for no good reason, he doesn't run to extend plays like good QBs do, he gets scared and runs), and QB rating is meaningless when the QB wilts when the team needs him most like Smith does. Expect Smith to regress too (have fun dealing with his supporters saying that he'll start playing good around year 3 or 4 because he "needs time to learn the system" and various other excuses).

I disagree, its a terrible move for Washington, as they'll be just good enough that he'll keep them from looking for a long term solution at QB (so they'll probably end up reaching or giving up a bunch of picks to try and draft someone leading into Smith's 4th year, and then if he busts they'll be in QB turnover for who knows how long), but he won't help them win anything meaningful either. And they'll end up squandering what talent they do have, so they're gonna be in rebuild mode once they finally do move on from him. He simply put, is just a waste of time as far as winning a Super Bowl for an NFL team.

Guys like Crowder and Samjae Perine are talent but it’s the replacement level kind. Jordan Reed is the only offensive skill player worth having besides Cousins and he just can’t stay healthy, concussions are going to put him out of the league. Skins should have been in rebuild mode, not “trade for an expensive vet QB because we’re in our window now” mode. I guess WAS wants to try the Colts model with a lesser QB talent than Luck.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck yeeeeeeeeeeessssssss! Have fun dealing with shitheads like SSSnail and other Alex Smith fans that will come along to follow their messiah.

yeah, this is just brilliant. I like Alex Smith but he's getting up there and the Skins are not a good fit for him. I dunno, we'll see. If that was it I wouldn't care so much, but this makes no sense when you lose Cousins. fucking morons.

Ain't nobody who is a Chiefs fan going to downgrade to become a fan of a shitty team such as the Redskins. Chiefs fans should be ecstatic with the trade because once again Andy Reid completely raped the Redskins with an over the hill QB and made out like a bandit.

You do realize that Smith had Hill, Hunt, and Kelce on his team right?

The Redskins are nowhere NEAR the talent that the Chiefs have offensively. It's not even in the same fucking hemisphere.

Watch how bad Smith is going to look on the Redskins with 0 weapons to throw to or hand the ball off to. It's going to be bad.

Once again my avatar is fucking perfect. I'm assuming it's never going to change, as long as Snyder is the owner.

I honestly feel like Washington has been trying very, very hard to be the Cleveland Browns for 10+ years, but their other skill positions just won't let them.

Cleveland is really the only other franchise that has so poorly mismanaged QB. Though Buffalo is probably in the running.

What I don't think Washington understands is you can't trade for a top tier quarterback. You have to develop them. Once in a blue moon something like Kurt Warner, Carson Palmer or Warren Moon comes up, but it's incredibly rare.

Sure, Philip Rivers and Drew Brees were traded around, but they weren't very good when it happened. Both of them were playing worse than Cousins. Virtually nobody trades a top 5 QB unless he's in the twilight of his career and coming off of an injury(see Warren Moon, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre).

And for the first time in history, the Redskins are going to let a franchise quarterback in his prime just walk out the door. This is even more rare than trading for one.

So what exactly is the plan for teams in the NFL who aren't good? Teams like the Redskins and Bills (my team) are always "okay". They aren't every really a genuine threat to win it all, but they seem to go 8-8 or a game or two worse/better each year.

Is it still "Tank to draft a quarterback"? It never works for the Browns and didn't work with the Colts and Andrew Luck. For the Bills the plan has been to replace the coaching staff every few years... Doesn't really seem to work either.

Phillip Rivers traded around? He was swapped in the draft for the first pick from the 4th, because lit'l Manning is a petulant child. He's only ever been in SD and "developed" behind Drew Brees for two years...who only started having good seasons when SD drafted Rivers. Brees was then sent to the Saints where he became Drew Brees. Rivers had a pretty solid 1st full year as a starter and got better and better....then those ~1.5 seasons of absolute dreck not too long ago.

Anyway, you're right about how QBs need to be developed. It's just that Rivers doesn't fit the anomaly you describe of traded QBs that manage to become good.

Recall also that Favre was traded after 2 or 3? years to the Packers because he was a drunken scrub in Atlanta(?). I think of those you listed, Warner really is the anomaly, even though he did have many years of development, except in lower leagues. He really blew everyone away in very short order, and just stayed very very good....also helps that he had great weapons and great O-Lines to work with, but he was still an extremely smart QB, which doesn't account for the talent around you.

this is hilarious, sad, and of course true.

Hey, maybe Snyder can bless us all by managing an amazing deal to get RGIII (and of course RGII) to return as backup(s)?

Also noted and true. Can't disagree. I feel for any Skins fan. I will say just this. There remains a lot of talent on your team. Front office follies aside, your future may not be as entirely bleak as you think. <shrug>

So, ummmm, guyz . . . how brilliant does the Eagles front office decision to trade up TWICE in order to snag Carson Wentz look to you folks now?

All hail Howie Roseman, a prince of a man who not only miraculously dug us out of Chip Kelly's destructive hubris as presumptive GM and also nabbed Wentz but pretty much nailed every single FA signing this off season -- Alshon Jeffrey, Smith, Blount, Wisniewski, Patrick Robinson -- plus snagging Jay Ajai and Tim Jerrigan for mid round draft picks in trades.

Another reason to root for Birds. They will snub White House visit. Chris Long already said he's not going and I think that will spread.

Of course Trump will reply once a black player says he'e not going.

I think it's way too early for anyone on any team to make future post-game claims. Just, stupid.

Why does Minnesota have a high need for QB? Keenum had the #2 overall QBR this year. I can't imagine they're planning on letting go into free agency when they could just slap a franchise tag on him.

And if they let him walk to keep Bridgewater... they're clearly planning to start Teddy, so they have no "need" even if it's probably bad choice overall.

Currently they have no QBs signed for next year. Since they can tag Keenum they get ranked high since they do have options. As opposed to ARI which both has no one rostered and no one to tag and thus I’ve deemed Critical QB need. Medium in my estimation means signed QB who the team may not think is a franchise QB (Tannenhill in MIA and Bortles in JAX). Low would be someone with a franchise QB but looking to develop a successor (e.g. NE)

LOL, funny link, the issue with the Eagles is they don't have that one guy Bill B can "take away", no one got to 1,000 yds across the whole team but that means it's difficult to predict what play they will run at any given time. Cox is also great at collapsing the pocket from inside, this is where Brady usually kills people and if you double-team him that's going to leave everyone else one on one. Peterson will have a good plan for the game, if the players can avoid major gaffe's I see them winning their 1st Superbowl.
