Could also happen by accident, if those concerned don't know about this quirk. But at least one SUSA member should know about it precisely, as he used it in 2017 to temporarily inflate Team China's score.

A few XS crunchers created new accounts to disguise as new participants in TSBT team. All in all three teams (XS-SUSA-TSBT) acting as one. They have all the skill set requirements to succeed in the Pentathlon i.e. Mobilization, Communication, Strategy, Flexibility and Tactics.

Jeeper's bulletin on day 1:
[...] This day will go into Scottish history as B-Day, the day the Americans came to Scotland. [...]
P3D can be seen at #2, not too far ahead of Team China (#3) who secured a good starting position. SG (#4) are valiantly holding their ground but must be terribly vigilant on account of TeAm AnandTech (TAAT) who could easily overtake them with an interim sprint. [H]ard|OCP ([H]) secure #6 and keep the possibility for more on the table. The teams further back will not make it to the medals at this current pace but they continue their crunching with grim determination. [...]
As always, questions over questions.
- Who will get the best start at the Javelin Throw and will that be important?
- Who will be first to feel the yoyo-effect?
- And what will the Bourbscotch taste like in the end?

As you can see, it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Good summary. I've been feeling the yoyo-effect for about 24 hours now.

How about opening a new Pentathlon 2019 thread, with announcements in the 1st post and everything?
One Minor, but fixable, drawback is that SETI.Germany links to this thread. I think even changing the title changes the link, but I have not tested that on any of my own threads.
I tested it now. I renamed "OT: programmable calculator" to "OT: a programmable calculator".
You can still go to the old link and get redirected to the new one.

Thanks for that, Stefan, that really is of value!

Ken, I just followed the link from SG's registered teams page and guess what? It brought me HERE! Good job again, Stefan!

The prediction somebody made in the Shoutbox several days ago was correct: The GPU project is Einstein.

Messing around with too many projects and too many hosts at once for this time of day, I missed that the 2nd day Jeeper Bulletin was issued several hours ago...

Today he reports on City Run
Jeeper said:
CNT are currently on the road to silver which is quite a pleasant surprise. ... A good start too by RKN. It would be great if they could hold on to #6. However, TAAT (#7) and SG (#8) will surely not go along with that.
and of course on the overall standings.
Jeeper said:
P3D (#4) and TAAT (#5) are separated by only 2 points, especially P3D are currently showing an inconsistent picture. To find [H] at #6 is not a surprise but it is a surprise to find SG at #7.
...
The unpredictability of the Javelin Throw can be seen clearly in the Overall Standings. We’ve also had a few surprises, let’s see if that continues.

Jeeper's bulletin from the middle of day 3 is centered on Javelin Throw:
Jeeper said:
The first day of the Javelin Throw (NFS@Home) is over. I could make it easy for myself and reach straight for tea and biscuits because the first day is actually not revealing an awful lot. Or is it? Let’s take a look.

TSBT have claimed victory for the day with an enormous advantage. However, only the third best result is counted in the end. This outcome is only relevant if you can better it twice more. It remains to be seen if the Scottish Americans can pull this off. TAAT at least managed an imposing result with #2 which makes their intentions clear. SG have thrown themselves onto #3 and will now analyze what can still be done.

And that is the great question. The Scots have laid down a great distance, topping this would be a waste of time. On the other hand, they won’t know if their pursuers could or would want to step it up or not.
Which tactics will pay dividends? On the one hand, this opens up the possibility to try and resolve everything in the first 3 days but could be challenged later although creating reserves in the other disciplines. On the other hand, the reverse would also be possible by not focussing too much on the first 2 days of the competition and betting everything on the last three days.

[...] #10 for TC leaves us waiting for more. The Dragon from the Far East didn’t really bother with day 1.
BOINC@MIXI #11 and AMD Users (#12) are not unusual in these positions but to find P3D at #13 is. This shows clearly that the Green Planet have delivered their first cross-out result.

And his look at the overall standings:
Jeeper said:
TSBT continue to lead the field, followed by P3D (#2) and this despite the weak result at the Javelin Throw. TAAT are a surprise at #3, although they are still profiting from a good round at the Javelin Throw. At #4 CNT are lying in ambush and waiting for the slip-up.

That was from 8 hours ago though. Now is a good time to take another screenshot for posterity:

I just returned home and found the apartment suspiciously cool and quiet. Had a power outage for I don't know how long. Didn't expect such a thing to happen in this developed country.

One of the breakers tripped right away when power returned.
.
.
I know at least that my downtime lasted longer than yoyo@home's database retains validated results. Which doesn't say much though. ... It looks like I lost 8 hours.

I had a power outage too, last night, from a lightning storm. First of the season; there are sure to be more. I think I can recover my javelin throw, though.

Now this explains a few things:
In the shoutbox SUSA said:
The only reason we registered is to be a part of Jeeper's reports

Jeeper himself is busily switching between projects from day to day. His report on day 4 (May 8) is dedicated to the WCG Marathon:
Jeeper said:
The first three days are now behind the valiant Pentathletes and have already given us some insight. The field behind the leaders in particular is very unpredictable. The second day of the Javelin Throw is coming up and could potentially make a mess of tomorrow’s Overall Standings. However, before that happens, let’s go easy and take a look at the Marathon (OpenZika).

There, TSBT continue to control the field and they will be difficult to catch unless a team mounts a murderous sprint. Behind, nothing's yet been decided. Even though P3D (#2) enjoy a small advantage over TC (#3), the Chinese Dragon could still cause the Green Planet to go up in flames.

TAAT have now claimed #4 after several breathtaking speed increases but it remains to be seen if they can keep this up. It’s looking good so far and they could possibly even grab a medal. [H] have also sped up and thus pushed past SG (#6) onto #5. Even so, #4 appears to be out of reach. The same could also apply to SG. The Teutons calmly keep up their tempo but I can’t find that look in their eyes which would signal an appetite for more.

The overall standings:
Jeeper said:
TSBT lead the field but there’s movement behind. With a strong interim sprint (at #3) at the City Run, TAAT managed, at least for the time being, to advance onto #2 in the Overall Standings. The boys and girls from the Green Planet are still looking puzzled because it’s been a while since P3D had stood at #3. There’s a lively tussle at rank 4 which lets us expect lots of changes tomorrow. CNT (#4) are currently leading the group ahead of SG (#5), [H] (#6) and TC (#7).

And his signature closing questions:
Jeeper said:
Take a deep breath. Enjoy whilst you still can. Your breath could be catching quite soon.
  • Who will mix up the field at the Javelin Throw?
  • Will TAAT continue to maintain their performance at the City Run?
  • When will the Dragon breathe fire?
As you can see, it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Yours, Jeeper
