Jeeper's bulletin on day 5 is out. The English translation is missing a part of the German and French versions, something about BOINC.Italy engaging the turn signal to pass 2ch, yet one being accustomed to right-hand traffic and the other to left-hand traffic, which is worrying. I dunno if Jeeper had been inspired by the shoutbox, because what gets lost in translation is that Germans are using the same word for traffic and intercourse.

So, what are we hoping the Pentathlon Sprint will be, it has to be CPU and quorum of one, so that leaves:

We haven't broken anything yet, so I'm guessing SRBase, which is loaded on....uhm, one of my machines? Surely that will be chosen. Hmm, or Cosmo, Virtual Box required, which is loaded on two of mine. Flakey LHC, or dreaded YAFU, is all that remains.

Hey Tony,

Sprint (3 days)
  • CPU or GPU project with a quorum of 1
I'm hoping for Collatz...lol

You are correct. It was the rules under the rules...lol.

Each team may cast four votes for projects from the preselection below while signing up. These votes will be taken into account for the final project choice. However, only one discipline can take place at a GPU project, and only projects that provide workunits with a quorum of 1 can be chosen for Sprint and Javelin Throw. The projects chosen for the Pentathlon will therefore not necessarily be the four projects with the most votes.

Uhm, TeAm, did we max out our private channel? Can't get past page 301...getting a 502 for page 302. The rest of the site is just fine.....

Whew, all better now.

I got a "bad gateway" instead of page 302 once, but just once. Seems normal to me now.

I am worried. My ISP still hasn't fixed my internet connection. My upload bandwidth is currently below 1 Mb/s, which means that I could use at most ~1/3rd of my CPUs for Cosmology@home. I think LHC@home would be even worse,
What do you know. Pretty much exactly coinciding with the moment when my computers were done uploading a bundle of OpenZika results today, the service provider corrected my connection. I now have ~8 Mb/s upload speed as paid for. This took only three support tickets opened/ closed without resolution/ repeat, plus some quality time in the waiting loop of the support line in ~fortnightly repetition.

(I had ~2 Mb/s before I moved and changed the provider. That was sufficient to run Cosmo on ~2/3rds of my CPUs without bunkering.)

I wonder, will this year's Einstein Cross Country results maintain any remote resemblance to those of 2017 Cross Country at Einstein at all? :-)

That was only 2 years ago? I fondly remember that sweet victory for our friends at OCN. I wonder if we even thought to check back then, and see if they had any migrant crunchers pass their way.

Our team has grown in membership, and in hardware, but by far we have grown in knowledge. And a lot of that is due to you Stefan!

Uh Oh. Team China is not happy with 4th place in WCG....they seem to have added some fissionable material to the reactors, raised the control rods, AND added some coal to the fire.

People are saying in the shoutbox that Einsteins validator seems stuck.
But I can't see anything suspicious on Kiska's graphs:

Or am I looking at it wrong? Or is the nature of the validator's troubles such that it won't show up in sever status data?

PS,
the by-month graph looks as if people were strategically bunkering Einstein to appreciable extent even before the announcement of the Cross Country project.

The German original was published yesterday still, but late in the day such that I didn't find it in me to translate it for you.

TeAm AnandTech's minutes of fame:
Jeeper said:
The second day of the Javelin Throw (NFS@Home) brought about changes in the classified results for nine teams.
TSBT (#1) exceeded the result of the first day and thus confirm that victory is within their grasp. Their 1st day could possibly be the deciding one. It’s a little more difficult to classify TAAT (#2). They too have clearly boosted their performance, too clearly? The same applies to SG (#3). Both seem to have plans to push their third result high and above that of the day they started. Let’s see what happens.
[...]
I'd originally made plans to look at the Overall Standings at this point, but they seem to have been attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes. I’ve got to let pest control do its work first.

Day 7 bulletin:
Jeeper said:
The first discipline of this year’s Pentathlon has come to an end and the medals in the City Run have been distributed. However, there’s not much down-time to be had because from today, we are going straight into the Cross-Country and maybe one or other of you will get the chance to ride on a gravitational wave.

But first we need to bestow honour on those who’ve earned it, off to the results in the City Run (yoyo@home).
TSBT win the City Run and thus claim Gold. Just like P3D behind them on the Silver ranking, both teams paced themselves in the end. CNT are claiming Bronze and indeed their tenth individual medal. Congratulations.

TAAT narrowly avoided getting into the medals. However, they managed to reach their best ever individual standing by reaching #4 and that is also worth some applause. [H] had enough in the end for #5. The Harden* can be more than content with this result because they left TC (#6) and SG (#7) behind them. The two heavyweights will no doubt be dealing with some disappointment.
*) This word was left as-is by the translator. 'The Hard ones' in English is 'die Harten' in German, and 'die Harden' in Saxon dialect.

Jeeper said:
Then it’s off over rough and smooth at the Cross-Country (Einstein@Home). So far, TSBT (#1) stumbled the least, followed by [H] (#2) who are very motivated this year and look like they really want some precious metal. However, lurking behind them are P3D (#3), SG (#4) and CNT (#6), teams which can scorch you. SG especially are suited to the Cross-Country. This is where they previously claimed their only medal. We shouldn’t be forgetting about TC (#6) who despite their current weak condition are still highly dangerous.

TAAT are currently standing at #7, followed by OCN (#8).
[...]
Pest Control has been! We now have mosquito-free Overall Standings.
TSBT are looking at overall victory, so far, so unsuspenseful. Behind them it continues to kick off. P3D are using the Cross-Country to capture #2 and thus push TAAT back to #3. Further back, [H] (#4), CNT (#5) and SG (#6) must take care not to lose pace and be left behind.
[...]
  • Will [H] finally be able to claim a medal?
  • Must TAAT tremble with fear over their medal at the Marathon? **
  • And who can stop TSBT?
**) Or maybe: "Do TAAT have to tremble for/ be anxious about their medal at the marathon?"

MagicEye from the Shoutbox asked the admin about it in Einstein's forum. Dorren chimmed in that the FGRPB1G work generator may not turn back on until the 400K pending tasks amount comes down. Currently Server status says 0 to send. https://einsteinathome.org/server_status.php

What did they expect when they agreed to be a Pentathlon project?
The thing is, Kiska's graph clearly shows that tasks-in-progress was merely doubled by the Pentathlon relative to the month before.

Currently Server status says 0 to send. https://einsteinathome.org/server_status.php
Ah. Of course the graph shows r-t-s across all subprojects. But FGRPB1G on its own is indeed down to 0.

Incidentally, NFS has almost exactly the same number of tasks in progress now, but (a) Pentathlon brought this up from a level of "almost nothing", and (b) NFS still has gobs and gobs of tasks ready to be sent.
