You should. If there was nonpartisan redistricting the Democrats would clean the house up. In too many of the shithole red states they redistrict by diluting more urban democratic heavy areas by taking a little piece of that and mixing in with regressive less urban and rural areas. This dilutes the urban vote into small chunks and has them enveloped by the regressive fascist areas of the states.

Well this is disappointing as hell. Should have gerrymandered the hell out of New York like the red state fascists do to us.

They tried - unfortunately for Democrats the courts in New York actually uphold the law so the Democrats' gerrymander here was struck down by the courts but they upheld it in red states.

Long while = 4 decades. Also a good chunk of surplus money to work with in the state budget to actually get some meaningful shit done voters can see.

The SoS races are huge...and if Moore vs Harper doesn't go through...the Republic may yet survive.

Yesterday, I had lunch with some folks that I know, and I'm pretty sure a good chunk of them are Republican or at least identified as right-leaning. At one point, after someone had brought up the election, I'm pretty sure I heard, "It doesn't matter. They're going to try to steal it anyway."

My mom also asked me some odd questions about "how many illegals we've let in". So, I guess she's part of the whole "dem illegals" camp too. I could attempt to go on about things such as asylum seekers and how that process works, but it doesn't really seem to matter much.

Next time tell them, "every year we have a holiday, where we celebrate letting illegals in.

Hatred of the other is self hate. An inability to inflict misery by one group on another group will lead to fragmentation and divisive hatred within the hating group as a required outlet for that hatred. The aim of the self hater is always revenge. That there is a target on which pain can be inflicted is all that matters.

I guess their fucked up policies had nothing to do with it?

Sure, here you go: https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1113&context=poliscifacpub

If you read through the paper you'll see they do find people shift slightly to the right as they get older but for the most part people's views don't change.
So many implications here in my opinion. I think people become more conservative the more they are motivated by feelings of insecurity. As we age we add time in which to the positive or negative events that can happen in our lives accumulate. If the environment is more stressful as we age I would expect people to experience greater fear such events will continue.

So the fact that most people don't change would imply that mostly life is fairly static in the stress we experience, that increase in stress for some is balanced by greater levels of security for others, or that we fix at some level in maturation. Also this idea may simply be wrong.

If not, then, what interests me is why we fixate at some early age politically and why or if anything can change that.

Are we the victims of our genes? Are we doomed to create and maintain the environment we have adapted to handle? Are there forces that push us to grow and evolve psychologically?

There is lots of data on how we are, not so much it seems to me on how we might evolve.

Georgia will be a runoff. This should be an advantage for Warnock. I think he has a more passionate base and a bunch of old shitty GQP voters who just voted downticket are not all going to come back out and vote by a longshot.

I don't see Republicans looking at their policies as being fucked up. We are talking about Republicans turning on each other so, yes, I don't think it has anything to do with them seeing they are fucked up. I think they are, however, fucked up because they don't see it. They are a party of grievance and there is only one enemy. My enemy is me. I hate the world because I hate me. Of course, everybody with few exceptions invisible to the rest of us, is just like me. For me, at least, this means that while I may hate the world I have nobody to blame for that but myself and even there blame is useless. I can't will myself not to believe what I have not been able to raise in myself to conscious awareness even though I know it's there hidden deep.

All I can do is try not to feed the beast with certainty. My level of awareness determines how I see the world. No awareness and everybody else is to blame. That is the lie we want to believe. Cause others to feel the pain we will not feel.
