missed the intro for Jamaican team. they're back in Bobsled!

Instead of the Olympic flame in a cauldron, it's in the center of a snowflake that's hung in the air.
How do they keep it lit since there's not enough fuel in that wand thingy to keep the flame lit for 2 weeks?

With a mom as old as that government itself, and had to deal with it until about the mid-1980s, I feel like tossing trashing at it as much as I please.

Yundi Li, famed pianist, apparently got on someone's bad side and he's apparently still jailed since October.

I hope the de fact athletes'' orgy(COVID is still spreading amongst that populace ) has no fans in the stands. A revenue-less Olympics thanks to a virus is the best case scenario.

four-man bobsleigh and female monobob (single person)

The female is trying to appeal decision to not allow Jamaica a spot in the 2 woman bobsled event.
If successful, then Jamaica will be in 3 events.

so there's a 2nd female bobsledder just sitting there as benchwarmer?
nice.. i would do the same to be at the Olympics

And holy.. the 2014 Winter games at Sochi cost Russia $50B?!?!?!?!

I guess this Olympics is only $4B because Beijing can reuse almost everything from their 2008 Olympics.
but They're still going to lose $ because Covid is limiting tourists

They weren't projected...initially I thought it was something cool like that but when they did close ups, you see the film/plastic with the country name on it being held in place by some clear pins...

are you talking about the girls holding up the country names during the walk?
i was thinking they just made clear plastic for all the countries and just reused the snowflake frame?

I'm struggling to care about this, mostly because NBC's coverage of this is so terrible.

They waste sooo much time talking about the backstories of the athletes!

A few minutes is fine.... seems like they spend more time on that BS then on the actual events!



The Olympics appeals more to soap-opera fans then sports fans sometimes.

I was undecided on watching, then decided to, then gave up. Then I saw a Dutch journalist catch the ire of a Chinese official and get his reporting shut down on camera.

Doesn't sound like I'm missing much. I just feel sorry for athletes having to compete inside a police state like China though. Fingers (and legs) crossed they quit with the anal swab testing method for covid.

John Candy is probably the most interesting part of this thread actually, though I still really respect Jamaicans looking at a sport like that and saying "let's go," movie aside. Just like that Tongan. Excelling at something while not in your normal element is what makes you a badass.

i read they were trying to get him off the grass onto the sidewalk, but i don't speak chinese so cannot confirm

The report I heard just said he was broadcasting from an "unauthorized" location outside the arena while the opening ceremony was taking place.

No idea how accurate this report was and have not heard much further info.
