Greedy unions are a bane to the nation and will make inflation worse, not better. CEOs should take pay no more than triple the highest union wage plus actual expenses. To make the big money, the rest would be based on stock performance so the market judges their job performance.
How do you enforce the second part without the first part.

Unions were one of the things that helped create the middle class along with the GI bill.

I'm not totally crapping on Unions. I just hate it when they get greedy as costs go up for us all.

Do you think the UAW ask was greedy in light of earlier givebacks and increases in CEO pay?
No. They need to do their job and work for 🥜s ..for 5 days a week...just like everybody else. Just give them shares.

Otherwise fire them and bring in Bidens alien workforce as scabs.

Mehico is likely to be the biggest beneficiary of this. Labor is now cheaper there than in China and there is no overseas shipping.

Where is it defined that you have to work 5 days a week to do your job? Many people work 3/4 days a week, and not part time, and get their work done. You do realize that full time is also considered 32 hours a week now days, right? That's the cut off where they are not required to offer medical insurance.. might even be 30 hours now.. where's your uproar about that? Where is your uproar about all the part time workers who only get 1,2,3 days a week and don't even get full time hours? Your comment is just one of your thousands of comments that is fueled by pure ignorance.

The optics of these CEOs staggering pay increases vastly outstripping the “generous” offer to the workers who make the company run are just terrible. What do these people even do with $25 million every single year? A pretty easy way to at least appear to be negotiating in good faith would be to voluntarily take less money and say you’re putting it towards workers. $5M / year still would mean they earn more than 99% of people’s lifetime earnings … every single year.

As soon as I hit somewhere in the $6-8M net worth range I’m out and that will provide more than I’d know how to responsibly spend in my VHCOL area.
Commie!! Who are you to block multi-millionaires and billionaires from pillaging the masses!

They also make big moolah! I had a niece do this and worked her way up to managing a staff. The pay was great but the hours were so grueling that after a few years she did not want to be in nursing any more. The hours and pressure drives some to find another line of work.

If the pay is "great" but the hours are grueling, it sounds like the pay (and frankly, the whole package of benefits vs time worked) isn't that great after all. Sounds like they should be compensated better or have better schedules - something nursing unions are constantly fighting for.

Burning out staff is a surefire way to build and sustain competence with any workforce /s

I hope the workers get a great new contract. Half the problem, as even somewhat evidenced here, is that the average worker has been conditioned to defend the obscene corporate greed while taking it in the shorts themselves. According to them people are supposed to work a miserable job for shitty pay and like it, because the owner is "taking all of the risk".

My wife owns a small business, the past couple of years have shown the value of even having employees available to work. It's still a tight labor market and finding good employees is difficult.

Asking management to share in the success of a company isn't such a horrible thing, is it? I'm glad the auto workers have some bargaining power given recent conditions, more power to them.

Here what the Pubs are saying. A lot of lies, blaming Biden for inflation, EVs. Forgetting they could get a new contract when Trump was in office. Most arguing against the UAW out of context like "I bet everyong would want a 40% increase". These people are such liars. Pence was the only honest one who said he would let corporations do what they want.

That was the Air Traffic Controller Strike. It was in their contract that they couldn't strike. Reagan was right to fire them due to the massive detriment to the economy and readiness of the nation.

I had a good friend that was an Air Traffic Controller in Miami. His famous last words were "He don't have the balls to fire us". Six months later he was selling insurance in Miami after he had to sell off all his belongings.

This is an entirely different situation. President has no power over the UAW.

No, it's not, it started in the past, and continues today.. you have no fucking clue.. you are a fucking moron. Why do you think the middle class has been shrinking since the decrease of unions, along with anti union legislation that periodically comes out? You some how think that many of the laws on the books that are for the working class (safety, labor laws, etc), that are a direct result of unions, would somehow continue to get better, and or stay on the books if unions disappeared. You don't seem to grasp that many of such laws, your good pay, your benefits would disappear if unions where not around. Stop being so damn ignorant!
Must be a day that ends in "Y", the clown is honking his nose again (Felix, I mean, in case that's somehow not abundantly clear)

Well, would've been cheaper to pay them what they wanted rather than spend the entire decade training and replacing them. Well, not all of them because they decided to hire some of them back. And they ended up having to implement all of the safety measures PATCO wanted anyway.

But the damage was done. And it was the beginning of decades of pulling the ladder up behind them by that generation, which gets us to where we are now with decades of wage stagnation and record wealth inequality despite record worker productivity. At least workers are starting to recognize the power they have again.
