The Dems have been doing well in special elections and anywhere abortion bans are at stake, this was a good and expected showing based on trends.

I hope the GQP fascists keep running on that abortion stuff, it's a gift that they are so openly horrible about it.
Sad fact is the hard core absolutely plan on doubling down and they will do it until they die. That's why we can also NEVER give up.

No but In further indignity Virginia just lost the FBI relocation to Maryland.
Not that MD isn't already loaded up with government facilities already, but VA has a hell of a lot of FBI facilities in their state already also. Share the wealth. (Grew up in NOVA).

FFS. Some ballot initiatives are written in ways that you basically have to be a lawyer to figure out how it would interplay with existing laws, or should just be things the legislature deals with (looking at you MA referendum on liquor licensing in 2022). I can simultaneously spend time looking at my ballot and looking stuff up and gripe about the legislature not doing it's job (either out of partisanship, gerrymandering, or abdication of responsibility).

Individual ballot initiatives can be fine based on their topics, but they can also be incredibly bad (looking at you Prop 13 in CA).
Yes, and Ohio issue #1 is the poster child for that. Republicans created a huge word salad in an attempt to confuse voters.

Fortunately, enough people gave enough of a damn to sort this out and told these corrupt republicans to fuck off.

It is a toss up to which is worse, corrupt politicians or lazy voters.

-They fact that Pols would deliberately put as many roadblocks as possible to enact the will of their constituents seems worse to me.

It's a power imbalance, the avg voter is busy, tired, and has their attention split in a thousand different directions. It's hard enough when the issues and props and everything are clear.

Then then Pols whose job it is to represent people or at least get them to change their minds don't do any of that and deliberately lie and obfuscate to pull a fast one on the people they're supposed to represent.

Ohio was such a dick slap to Republican bullshittery, it puts a smile on my face just thinking about how much horse shit the avg voter trudged through to stick it to those assholes.

Now if only those same voters would recognize who just tried to fuck them...

Missouri has a similar situation. The courts have already slapped some of it down as I recall.

Such a weird word "gubernatorial". Just looked it up and it's from the Latin gubernator. Weird that changed into governor yet the adjective didn't change. They should bring back 'gubernator' as the title of the job.

-Holy shit that was like getting kicked in the balls over and over again, I literally feel nauseous after seeing that.

That's the kind of shit Dems need to throw down. Take the fucking gloves off.

Not really a joke - for example even with people as reprehensible as Josh Duggar the hard core evangelicals would say that his wife is significantly to blame for not meeting his sexual needs sufficiently to prevent him from becoming a weird pedo.

Christie, at yesterday's GOP primary debate noted that prolife needs to encompass more than the unborn, such as teens and adults suffering from addiction (and getting them the help they need). It did not get any applause.

Americans have finally broadly begun to perceive that most Republicans are pro-birth (at absolutely all costs) not pro-life and they have no intention of changing.

I know it's not a joke, basically said every time a Fundy gets busted.

The other thing they'd say is "why is the baby being punished for a crime it didn't commit."

Most fundamentalist Christian lack any type of empathy.

Chris Christie still trying the Republican tactic to change the narrative. He's intentionally framing there are women out there having elective abortions at 9 months when it really isn't happening. He said is against laws that allow 9th month abortions. Mika calls him on it but the follow-up question should have been...

If a woman who is 8 months 3 weeks pregnant has a medical emergency and her doctors says we may have to abort the fetus, should the law get in the way of that decision?

These are medical matters only. Neither the Government, the Church nor anyone else should even know. HIPAA should prevent that. ONLY the patient and medical provider should know. The patient can decide if other individuals should be informed.

If a procedure is accepted by the AMA and/or other professional medical associations, no law should interfere.

Or the exemptions are made so nebulous that doctors will not assume the risk of being sent to prison, which is the idea. That women should be forced to bear non-viable pregnancies to full term is absolutely monstrous and deeply unpopular.

Proof that the only children republicans care about are unborn. After that, fuck them, and sadly in her case literally.
No, it is proof that Republicans are anti-woman. They don’t give a shit about the unborn. The unborn are an excuse to try and control women

She was 12 years old, and they want to force her to carry that rape baby. They are also passing child labor laws so that if she wasn't pregnant, they would be happy for her to work the 3rd shift at a slaughterhouse, or chicken processing plant, regardless of her gender.

Republicans care only about the unborn and the very rich.

Somebody forget to tell the fucking republicans that...

State laws stop at the state line.

It is illegal to gamble in Hawaii. Hawaiian residents can return from a gambling vacation to Vegas without being charged with the crime of gambling. Hawaii has a state income tax. I bet if you win big in Vegas, you damn well better report those winning on your state income tax return.

You can go to a state where recreational marijuana is legal, yet I have yet to hear of anyone returning to a state that does not allow pot smoking without being catching a drug charge.

The dems need to get abortion measures onto the ballots of swing states before next November. I hear they are already there for AZ and PA. It will bring pro-choice people out to the polls.

If Ohio is any example, Republicans are already working to either declare such a ballot invalid, or pull some shenanigans to stack the vote in their favor.

It's amazing that the issue of abortion is so big, that even the average lazy person took the time to vote on it, and make sure it passed in Ohio.
