If a woman who is 8 months 3 weeks pregnant has a medical emergency and her doctors says we may have to abort the fetus, should the law get in the way of that decision?

@HomerJS this isn't directed at you, but I wish people would stop using this example.

After viability, there is NO medical emergency (in either mom or fetus) where an abortion would be performed. Instead, the baby is delivered prematurely and the issues/complications of prematurity are dealt with.

People on both sides of the argument continue to use this example which NEVER happens. Just wish someone would put an end to it and take away this silly talking point.

I say this as someone who works in this space.

Christie, at yesterday's GOP primary debate noted that prolife needs to encompass more than the unborn, such as teens and adults suffering from addiction (and getting them the help they need). It did not get any applause.

That's communism!

Seriously. That's what they'll scream.

Chris Christie still trying the Republican tactic to change the narrative. He's intentionally framing there are women out there having elective abortions at 9 months when it really isn't happening. He said is against laws that allow 9th month abortions. Mika calls him on it but the follow-up question should have been...

If a woman who is 8 months 3 weeks pregnant has a medical emergency and her doctors says we may have to abort the fetus, should the law get in the way of that decision?

At 8 mos and 3 days gestation, the term used is premature delivery. Not an abortion. Unless there’s a congenital medical reason (a defect in the child’s development), the child’s almost guaranteed to survive.

Aren't there some cases where the baby won't survive birth at any gestation period that they deliver early to reduce complications to the mother? And some people consider this a late term abortion?

I’ll ask it another way. Show me one woman who remains pregnant well into the third trimester who didn’t want a baby. Has an elective abortion ever been performed late into the third trimester? By elective I mean one where a doctor deemed medically necessary?

So this isn't a medical emergency. It's an unfortunate situation where the developing baby has a lethal condition. And yes, some moms will elect to terminate this pregnancy early on.

All state health departments have this information but it is beyond exceedingly rare, like in most cases it's 0.

My point is that it doesn't need to be a talking point nor does policy need to revolve around it, it just feeds into the "late term abortion" fallacies.

Ohio's residents via petition got the abortion issue on the ballot.

Republicans knew that it would pass, as they have seen it happen in other states. So lets change the fucking rules, and require a 60% majority. But voters had to approve that, and it went down in flames.

So abortion and reproductive rights amendment to the constitution did pass, by a landslide...

Now the republicans who say that voters ain't smart enough to know what they want are now trying another trick...

Ohio Republicans vow to target judiciary over Issue 1 abortion measure

Remember, republicans in office are not your representative, they are your ruler, you ignorant subject that ain't smart enough to know what rights you want.

And to think, all this could have been avoided if the damn voters had just voted the way they were supposed to! It's so much more effort when you have to subvert the will of the electorate. Do these people not care about their poor, poor elected representatives? Selfish, that's what they are

I got a kick out of how they rationalized their corruption by making up a story that the Dems would have done something worse. That's peak Republican right there.
