No, and you seriously need to retake high school civics.Couldn't Trump just force a nationwide ban on abortions when president?
Mail in, early, absentee, and in person same day. I voted last Thursday. And still no one is voting.Do they allow mail in or is it 1 day in person only?
Sad turnout considering the stakesMail in, early, absentee, and in person same day. I voted last Thursday. And still no one is voting.
That's pretty awful, even by U.S. standards.Want to know what's pathetic? In KY, my county (Knox) has 40,000 people. 6,600 people voted. Everyone is too lazy to go vote!
We voted against that one for all the good I knew it would do.Ugh I knew Proposition 3 that would prohibit a wealth tax in the Texas state constitution would pass. It's 70-30, about where I expected it to be.
Uvalde is super right wing, no surprise. One down:
Mother of Uvalde victim loses mayoral election
ABC|22 minutes ago
Uvalde, Texas -- Kimberly Mata-Rubio, the mother of Uvalde victim Alexandria "Lexi" Rubio, lost a special election to become mayor in Uvalde, Texas.
Looks like good news here, my local school board region is apparently a bit less crazy than I thought, MAGA candidates endorsed by the Republican party look to be going 0 for 4 on preliminary final results. Margin modestly larger than Biden margin at last election (~4-5 points larger margin than Biden's ~8 points)"non-partisan" school board election, with every available seat having an anti-woke crusader running, targeting to take over a majority for the insane.
(And a number of other local government positions that appear to have sane candidates competing.)
And in one precinct, voters are complaining loudly that they were denied ballots for the Tucson mayoral race. The precinct is not in the city.Turn out is pathetic. So far, Dems sweep mayor and city council but this was a given.
Pay raise for city council members is too close to call. The current pay is $24k/year for what is a full time job. The low pay means only people of means can afford to be on the council.
The school overrides are all winning by the widest margins seen in decades. This is a stupid way of funding schools but it's the best option until Arizonans stop sending morons to the Legislature. The Legislature sets school tax rates statewide. The Legislature is dominated by low-tax, anti-education assholes who set funding too low. Then each district holds override elections to bump their rates. So the same voters who sent the morons to the Legislature vote to give their kids' schools more funding while screwing everyone else's kids.
The incorporation proposal I mentioned earlier in the thread seems to be going down in flames by a margin of 20%.
Trump EO. USSC uphold EO. National Abortion ban. When democrat becomes president (as if we ever have elections again) the USSC says he can't undo the EO for reasons. No, and you seriously need to retake high school civics.
I read through those and I am now truly convinced that Texans really are dumber than Okies. Okies soundly rejected the Farmers right question. Also I love how texans pass every single tax cut and exemption, but then also pass every single new funding program. In Texas we had 14! propositions. With about 50% in:
Prop 1 - Passing - protects farmers and ranchers from county regulations (including health regulations)
Prop 2 - Passing - lowers taxes on child care facilities, many parts of TX lack childcare
Prop 3 - Passing - prevent Texas from ever implementing a wealth tax - no wealth tax is currently proposed.
Prop 4 - Passing - increased homestead exemption from 40K to $100K
Prop 5 - Passing - provides funds to non UT & A&M universities to beef up research
Prop 6 - Passing - provides money for local water projects
Prop 7 - Passing - money to improve electrical generation but only for non renewables
Prop 8 - Passing - funds rural broadband
Prop 9 - Passing - COLA for retired teachers- first in 10 years
Prop 10 - Passing but close - Business tax exemption for biomedical company’s
Prop 11 - Passing - Funds development and maintenance of parks and recreational areas
Prop 12 - Passing but very close - gets rid of the Galveston Treasurer position for a savings
Prop 13 - Not Passing - raises the mandatory retirement age for judges and justices.
Prop 14 - Passing - more parks and Rec
I'm sure that won't be abused by real estate investors.Republicans really are a one trick pony! Tax cuts solve every problem!! Childcare too expensive lower taxes!
I would love to see people who wanted to prohibit a wealth tax interviewed. How was this sold to people? I wager it was misleading.Ugh I knew Proposition 3 that would prohibit a wealth tax in the Texas state constitution would pass. It's 70-30, about where I expected it to be.
