Damn that vault Simone Biles did today was absolutely ridiculous. My jaw was just on the floor seeing her complete two rotations and it looked an order of magnitude more difficult than any other vault anyone else did today.

Kaylia Nemour's uneven bars routine today was incredible too but can't find any video of it since she's not American and thus NBC Sports won't make a video for it.

The GOAT wins the all-around again! And Suni Lee slipped into the Bronze medal position.
Also glad that NBC spent a little time introducing Rebeca Andrade, Brazil's back to back Silver all-around medalist to us. Raised by a single mom of 8 in a favela, Andrade walked two hours to her training center as a youth.

I like watching olympics, even the smaller sports. Many of these often have great backstories.

Sarah Sjoestrom winning 100m is one such case, I was surprised this was only her 2nd gold olympic medal given her many WRs and a double digit world championship titles. She made a late decision to even come to Paris and she wasn't a favourite.
Zhanle Pan's 100m WR is quite shocking too, Leon Marchand making some history. Ledecky needs no comment. Or the Turkish shooter...

Another lesser known example:
Croatian squad won gold in 2016 in a different discipline, then 2021 in this one (coxless pair), age is catching up (34 and 36) and they weren't convincing this year with both Brits and Swiss being the main candidates for the gold. The win was quite dramatic going from 4th place to 1st in the last 500m, the commentator already declared the GBR win and then not taking the finish very well lol.

LB/LB the greatest athlete in the world today has to be Simone Biles
Her diminutive stature (4' 8") is an advantage in women's gymnastics but not on uneven bars, where I figure it's detrimental, hence it being her worst event. Her all around competition score on uneven bars opened the door for other competitors Thursday evening. She prevailed anyway. She pretty much nailed all her other events.

That 100M final was the most competitive race I have ever seen. The entire field was so deep. It's crazy that Bolt would have finished a couple body lengths ahead of any of these current guys.

Bolt's natural speed was always better than his competitors. Noah Lyles had the top speed in this race, down the stretch he reeled them in, not the way that Bolt did, but he had the fastest speed at the end. I saw it live and thought Lyles had won. But they said Thompson had won. Cameras continued to roll, everybody looked confused, they were looking up for results. Suddenly Lyles knew he'd won, ripped off his name tag and showed it to the world. He had backed up his talk and histrionics completely. I figure he'll probably take the 200 too. He's not Bolt but very arguably the fastest man alive.

By definition, if you're the reigning Olympic and World champion in the 100m dash, you're called the "fastest man alive."

This was awesome on Sunday, women's cyclist Kristen Faulkner has only been doing it for 7 years and she was first alternate for the Americans in the road race. When she made her move with 2 miles to go, her competitors just shrugged and decided to race for silver lol.

From a small town in Alaska, took up cycling in NYC Central Park, I guess to keep in shape, got into it whole hog, look at her now!
