With their draconian abortion ban, I would expect a pretty solid blue turnout, especially from young women.
Isn't the Arizona legislature now rushing to reverse the ban because the GQP is scared they'll lose in November?

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm in the same boat, baffled (and certainly concerned) trump is even polling as well as he is, but as another pundit on the republican side even proclaimed, you sure as fuck wanna be Biden right now, not trump.

Given the fundamentals right now where 1) it's better than even odds trump is a convicted felon by November and 2) his legal misadventures are fucking all the wind out of the GOP fundraising machine, trump is not only hamstrings himself but also the GOP as a whole.

No one on either side should be hyper confident but I don't think dems should be shitting their pants either.
If it was about fundamentals, then we shouldn't have any worries. But that's assuming the electorate isn't gullible, dumb or often voting against their own self-interests.

Prof. Allan Lichtman says we should relax.

Keep in mind that in the modern era, no incumbent has won reelection with an approval rating mired in the low 40s (shortly before the election). There's still time left for Comeback Joe, but obviously I'm concerned like you are. Remember a couple months ago when some people said inflation is solved and the American consumer will soon get it? Maybe, maybe not?

And Florida used to be a swing state, now it's solid red.

I get the feeling some people are just not going to be satisfied until we get another 2008 performance even though the odds of that are exceedingly slim.

What’s odd is that people think democrats will win elections by going further left. I see no evidence of this.

The corollary of this is that Trump would maximize his chances of victory by going further right. Does anyone think that?

I'd love for Trump to get more votes and Biden to squeak by the EC.

We'd never hear the end of it!

What grates on me is that the left has done well and wields way more power inside the party than it used to. Biden himself is way to the left of Obama policy wise. They've gotten a lot of what they wanted if not everything.

Where is everyone suggesting go further left? Are you guys talking about oh, you know, so far left they don't finance and facilitate ethnic cleansing and war crimes on a grand scale? Or what exactly are these farther left positions being pushed onto Biden?

You are so out in left field it's nuts. You are becoming as out of touch with reality from an elitist Dem POV as @fskimospy and that's bad.

So it goes from we had to wait over a week to squeak an election in a couple states to now we won't be happy until a 2008 thumping. Biden won Georgia, AZ, and Wisconsin by small damn margins. It was way too close for comfort. But because we are hoping for something not quite as close, we won't be happy unless we get a wipeout. Like there is no in between.

You people are so intellectually dishonest. I think you and fskim should start a podcast - How to think like a limousine liberal and be out of touch in 2024.

Then how is Biden behind him in popularity??

Is it just because Trump is a big FUCK YOU LIBS to us?
First polling has a lot to do with where they are pulling and who they are polling. Second, people answer based on their current, in the moment emotions. Right now, emotions are high around the country for many reasons. But come November, all though some will still vote based on emotions, many will actually stop and take the time to think, evalutate who they want to represent them, and vote, beyond their emotions.

I wouldn't call her out of touch. @K1052's viewpoint is justified as the danger is real.

We should be winning by a couple of touchdowns but it's a squeaker or a loss. Proof that we're too much puritan pride for our own good and focus on mayo vs ketchup fights vs being united and going for steak!

That is not what she is saying. Dismissing how close the 2020 election was and saying those of us saying to be vigilant, that we must just want a 2008 walloping of Romney by Obama otherwise we won't be happy. It's a load of horseshit. We just want a bit more of a padding than that relatively close call of 2020. To dismiss how close we got to Trump that election is criminal. Which is what she is doing.

In my book, 2020 was a close election. I'm perfectly fine with the outcome (2008 rout not needed), but people can view the margin of victory somewhat differently (that doesn't mean all opinions are valid, some just aren't). I do want to say K1052 is one of our best posters, and I think they drive a BEV and not a limousine. I'm fine with being corrected when wrong, but we should be cautious with personal pronouns if we aren't certain. They/them is relatively safe.

More salient is that the current facts on the ground indicates a closer presidential race than 4 years ago. It's okay to be skeptical of polling in May, but Dems are considered likely to lose the Senate. I'm no Nate Silver, but a lot of things will have to go right for Dems to win reelection, along with one or both houses of Congress. I really don't think it's hyperbole to say the stakes have never been higher.

That's how you lose re-election, the house and the senate to a treasonous tyrant!

I think a lot of people underestimate the Gaza thing. We have a bunch of older pseudo intellectuals just shitting on the college kids who are anti-ethnic cleansing. They say like, who could be so dumb? Bunch of out of touch morons themselves. Probably in their 30's at least or middle-aged, and acting more dumb than the college kids they have no fucking clue about.

It's like they can't remember being 20 years old. Idealistic and passionate and very anti-war. What they are protesting against is very just, and they are very right on Biden in regards to that war. Now, are they not seeing the bigger picture? Nope, many aren't. But please tell me, wtf do you think 18-25 year olds are great at doing - zooming out of an atrocity to see the bigger picture? Give me a fucking break.

Or these pseudo-intellectuals don't even look at the history of anti-war protests being heavily skewed towards the college demographic. And now with the internet and people can see what Israel is doing, beyond the sanitized nonsense American MSM shows, I mean it can really get people riled up.

But no, let's just shit on the kids for being kids. It's not like they are on the wrong side of history with their Palestinian stance here. Israel is doing monstrous heinous things, and has been for decades. And without the US's tangible support with money and weapons, and also politically with vetoes in the UN and basic hemming and hawing with all of this - barely preventing much of anything, and actually enabling most of it - besides a brief respite of aid after being humiliated by Israel on the world stage multiple times. Looks like Rafah is still fucked. And it will be with our bombs that we provided.

Do I wish they could see the big big picture better? Of course. But welcome to reality folks. This is how college aged kids are. Not all but I'd say the majority. And you can't even say they are wrong for what they are protesting either.

Biden looks embarrassing and weak and terrible on the whole situation in Gaza. It's horrific. Of course I'm old enough to think bigger picture, but I can see the reality of what is going on with others, including the kids, unlike a few other older elitist smug dems that are fucking clueless about fundamental shit.

An incumbent president lost re-election and managed to flip the Senate to the opposition in the process and aftermath delivering his opponents a trifecta. Yes, it was a historically bad result.

Biden did +4 points in the PV which is better than Obama did in 2012. Trump was -2 in 2016. In EC terms Biden's win wasn't much stronger than Trump in 16 but his margins were better in PA/MI/WI plus managed to squeak out GA/AZ (the former being unthinkable at the time).
That's a lot of words to say you are unable admit the presidential election was pretty close.

So sad.

2008 was John McCain. 2012 was Romney - I was going to vote Romney until he picked Ryan.

Let's face it.. its over! Trump will be POTUS47.

Last time it cost them a SCOTUS seat and Roe vs Wade due to RBG's stupidity.

Now it'll cost them a whole lot more due to this doubling down on stupid.

Biden will still get 45-47% but won't be enough to win. However that's the base. He can't lose them trying to pander to pro-idealism sharia nutcases.

Bottom line is the Muslims and Pro-Palestinians have fucked Biden over and should never be trusted again.

I've made my peace with it.

Hope those fuckers enjoy Trump and Netanyahu sipping champagne from condos build on Palestinian bodies.

YOu don't have to go that far. Biden has a solid chance to win. I'll be knocking doors in Nov. Just the cocky Dems who think Biden won easily in 2020 need to get a dose of reality that they need to start realizing it's no lock at all this year.

Ohman… Looks like @gotnoeggs has more competition to find the cheapest bulk diaper seller.

You can call me all sorts of names.

But can you honestly come up with 5-7% more votes for Biden in swing states?

Denial is sadly not just a river in Egypt. Democracy has 1 flaw.. sometimes people make stupid choices.

It's become evident the non support for Biden and let him lose to show we're morally superior stance is baked in!

I cannot imagine how worked up you're going to be in late October heading right up to election day if this is how you feel on May 2!
