Just like Russia can take care of business when it comes to hitting Georgians where they need to be hit until they withdraw from Ossetia.

How so? SO is Georgian territory and even the retarded Russians accept that. Yeah, the U.S., EU, UN, Russia, China, India, and every other country on Earth considers SO as Georgian territory and doesn't recognize any of the "independence" claims by SO.

So you are saying Georgian military has no business in Georgian lands and Russia does?

South Ossetians don't accept it though. They aren't Georgian lands, Georgia never controlled them. They were autonomous region within Georgian SSR, but never joined Georgia when it became an independent country. They had referendum and declared independence overwhelmingly.

The Freedom-Loving Russian People support the rights of All Slavic Peoples to Autonomy and Self Determination.

Except, of course, for Chechnya.

In addition to bombing Poti, Russian warplanes were said to have bombed the Georgian city of Gori, killing civilians, and to have started a new bombardment of villages in Abkhazia.

Within hours of the Russian bombing of the second separatist region, the Abkhazians announced they had begun a military operation against Georgian troops in their territory.

AP

It's a two-front war for the Georgians now.

Georgia is in a state of war. Martial law has been declared. The Bear is awake after two decades of hibernation.

NATO just couldn't resist poking it with a stick.

This is a good example of democracy in action. The President promised during his election campaign a couple of years ago to return these breakaway regions. He won and is now doing it. 2000 Georgians have now died and more are to follow.

Where do you get this number?
South Ossetians voted overwhelmingly for independence too, they are dying for their democracy as well.

Who knows. I'm glad they weren't so that we didn't have to find out because what if they did anyway? Then we have either a) Large scale war with Russia or b) emperor without clothing; NATO alliance meaningless. Neither option is nice, really.

We have option B already, with public declarations of allowing Georgia to join NATO all this does is send a message to our allies that we will not help them unless it is profitable for us to do so.

They are Georgians.

EDIT: You're correct. The Georgians voted for someone that could get them the regions back and the regions voted for independence. This war is legitimate as far as all are concerned.

Are you saying we should grant independence to all ethnic groups? And not all South Ossetians want independence by the way, 1/3 of SO is ethnic Georgians and they boycotted all referandums towards independence, hence the 99% number SO regional government likes to reference.

And what is Russia's reason to be in SO? None. If you are gonna say well 90% of SO are dual-citizens of Russia, keep it cause all those 90% were given Russian citizenship post-92 exactly to be used as an excuse to attack Georgia and even if that was an acceptable excuse to not respect Georgia's territorial integrity, that would be like saying its acceptable for Mexico or Canada to go ahead and invade a portion of the U.S.A. to protect it's citizens.

So it would have been 65-35 instead of 99%, still overwhelming support.

And what is Russia's reason to be in SO? None. Georgia never took control of SO. Never. When it left USSR, SO didn't follow.
Georgia's only claim to Ossetia is because some Soviet bureaucrats put South Ossetia under Georgian administrative control, when everything was controlled from Moscow anyways. So this Georgian territorial integrity is a myth that never existed.
Russia has a peacekeeping mandate in SO, Georgia broke its obligations and attacked Russian peacekeepers, and is now deservingly getting its butt kicked.

Russia says Ukraine helping Georgia

MOSCOW, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Russia accused Ukraine on Saturday of encouraging Georgia to carry out "ethnic cleansing" in the separatist region of South Ossetia by providing arms, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Ukrainian government, which has been enthusiastically arming Georgian troops from top to bottom, was in fact encouraging Georgia to attack and carry out ethnic cleansing in South Ossetia," the ministry said in a statement on its website www.mid.ru.

It added that ex-Soviet Ukraine had "no moral right to teach others how to do things." (Reporting by Tanya Ustinova, writing by Amie Ferris-Rotman)

Now Putin has an excuse to take back the Ukraine as well as Georgia, the USSR is being reborn.

Russia is trying to hit Gerogia where it hurts;

Russian jets targeted major oil pipeline-Georgia

TBILISI, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Russian fighter jets targeted the the major Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline which carries oil to the West from Asia but missed, Georgia's Economic Development Minister Ekaterina Sharashidze said on Saturday.

"This clearly shows that Russia has not just targeted Georgian economic outlets but international economic outlets in Georgia," she said at a news briefing.

LOL. You can almost smell the condescention.

What evidence do the commies have to back up this claim? Ukrainians, unlike Russians, know how ethnic cleansing feels. Talk about pot calling the kettle black.

So Georgia decided to start a war on the day of the opening ceremony of the Olympics? Not that I like how Russia is flexing its muscles again (they looked at what Bush did and doesn't really care anymore), but isn't that an act of war? Why would a small country like Georgia pick a fight with Russia?

The history that spawned these problems between Georgia and the breakaway regions goes back a long way. Neither the Russians or Georgians have handled the situation really well.

It looks more like Putin is exploiting the situation as an expeditious way to curb further erosion of Russia's sphere of influence. Georgia was due to be offered NATO membership within the next year thus putting it out of reach.

Putin is now shaking the stick at Ukraine for the same reasons but there is no pretext there for military action and the Ukrainian military isn't a pushover.

Russia has moved from attacking just the Ossetia conflict area to other areas of Georgia and are moving in their Navy. It could be a wholesale slaughter in progress.

Fighting escalates over south Ossetia

Russian warplanes have bombed targets across Georgia in an escalation of the conflict over South Ossetia.

Georgia's government says air raids on the port of Poti and the city of Gori have killed many civilians and Russian warships are heading for the Georgian coast.

President Mikheil Saakashvili has declared a state of war, but also offered a ceasefire to Russia.

Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev says his country has launched its operation to force the Georgian side into peace and accused Georgia of causing thousands of casualties.

Wholesale slaughter would be still in progress if Russia didn't stop Georgia from shelling a city full of civilians.
Georgia needs to leave South Ossetia, or the beating needs to continue until cooperation improves.
