20inch LCD monitor woes

For some reason my LCD does not come on until XP reaches the welcome screen. As a result, I cannot access the bios because nothing shows on the monitor.

The monitor is a 20inch widescreen made by Sceptre and my video card is an ATI Radeon 8500le. My 17 inch Sony LCD comes on immediately when I boot so I am wondering what is preventing my 20inch LCD from coming on. From the looks of it, its probably not the video card.

Does anyone know what is causing my 20inch LCD from not coming on?

I am using the DVI, but it worked fine with my sony. Ah well. I kinda liked this monitor but it looks like it has got to go!

Sounds like maybe a BIOS update is needed.... Either on the motherboard or the Video card if there is one avail.
I had some strange VGA display in DOS issues until I updated the BIOS for one of my motherboards one time. The screen would go out of sync until Windows was up.

What monitor? What happens when you don't use DVI? It might also be a videocard issue.

When I was using an old Ati Radeon AIW with DVI on my Planar 17", if the monitor wasn't on at boot, it wouldn't turn on until it got to windows. With my new Dell 2001fp, it give me a bit of noise on the screen at bootup but at windows everything is fine. It's just a driver/firmware issue.

After I upgraded my videocard, the monitor is perfect even without Windows driver's help.

The monitor is a 20inch widescreen made by Sceptre. I am having this issue with DVI, but I will try hooking it up with the regular VGA as well and see if that helps.

Also, the video card works find with my sony 17 inch LCD using DVI, so I dont know why its not working with the 20inch.

Yes, its something to do with the DVI. My secondary monitor which is vga turns on instantly and my Primary monitor takes at least 10 seconds before it shows an image.
