21:9 Monitor Experiences

So yeah, first time poster but long time lurker. I've been looking for a new low-latency monitor with all the 120Hz no-frills-IPS / No-Blur-Lighboost-TN trickery going on; however, I'm really reticent to buy one of those Korean monitors if I'm going to end up having to take thing apart to "fix it / duct it", and I don't know if I can tolerate the colors of a TN panel after having IPS for so long. I also have 7970s and would need to resort to workarounds to do the Lightboost setup.

My problem is that I'm getting hung up / leaning towards the 21:9 monitors, but I was looking for some more owner's feedback on them. I've read the Anandtech review on the LG29EA93, and prad.de has a pay-for review in German from last month of the slightly-nicer LG29EB93 which had positive things to say about it (FYI - they also get the low input latency figures that the revised Anandtech review got. And yes I used Google Translate extensively to read that review ).

I've got a 2560x1440 right now but I'm not wed to it (or need it ), as this is just a home computer used for gaming. And that is where my curiosity lies with this wide aspect ratio.

So what have people's gaming experiences been on these new ones? Am I to just expect my current gaming with the top and bottom chopped off? Thanks in advance.

I don't have one, but have also been intrigued by the 21:9 monitors. The only problem I can see so far, is if the game does not allow you to change the FOV, it could be weird.

Well, I went and bought an LG 29EB93-P after reading enough about 21:9 displays to be comfortable with the idea. I also added a 2560x1080 resolution to my current monitor and tried out the few games I had to see if they would work. Only D3 gave me some fits, but it works fine in full screen windowed mode.

We'll see how it goes... at least Provantage has a good return policy if things don't work out

Do you know if you got Rev 01 with Firmware 1.25? I refuse to buy one without it, but there seems to be no way to actually tell. I haven't been able to confirm the -P model is that one.

I'm not sure to be honest. I'll have a look when I get home today and see. Mine is the 29EB93-P though, but from what I read on prad.de everything is the same except the much nicer stand that you get with it.

Gaming has been good so far and the colors on this thing are great (I only used the lagom test images and the Windows 7 calibration tool for this guy). Quakelive will only let me do 1920x1080, but when you're "in it" you don't tend to notice the black bars on the sides. Too many other things to worry about
