I came across the offer in Sunday newspaper. Yes, one going to have to do some heavy duty shopping to qualify for either Wega TV or even a Sony projection televsion.

1. If you meet CitiBank qualifications, they'll start you out with 3000 points.*

2. Buying Sony products earn three time the points, instead of the normal one dollar spent equal a point.*

3. While the max is 250,000 points that can be earned anuually, one has up to five years to use the points.

4. Until the end of March, each dollar spents on item from Sonystyle earns 10 points.

* The printed ad differs slightly from the web sites I visited.

So if Citibank gives me 3000 points, I only have to spend $211,000 more to get the "free" 32" XBR...or I can spend $70,333.33 on overpriced Sony stuff to get triple points...

Sign me up!?!

Forgot about Sonystyle...only have to spend $21,100 there by the end of this month...

i used to have this card, change it to citi dividend where they give you a true 1% cash back. the only draw back is they only send you a check of $100+, so it's take a long time to get there.

bewarn, discover and amex card are not anywhere near true 1% cash back, it's base on increasement spending.

this may be nice information to know, but i'm not sure i would classify this as a hot deal.
personally for me, spending over 200k to earn a tv is not a hot deal.

That's a brilliant idea! I think I might consider it.

As a personal user of this card for the past 3 years, I say don't bother. The item selection is extremely limited, and even with over 42k points there's absolutely nothing of interest to redeem them on. See for yourself: (Pathetic) Rewards Catalog

Of course, this is just my humble opinion.

You know you can buy ANYTHING Sony to redeem your points right?
Just purchase the item on the Sony CC and then mail in your reciept with a complete redemtion form.
Edit: The only restriciton is no auction sites. Online and B&M work well for the most part. If your not sure about the store double check with citibank.

I use my Sony points to buy a 16X CD-RW drive and a 2.4 Ghz Cordless Phone.
Plus the CD-RW drive had a mail in rebate to sweeten the deal!

The Sony card is awesome...I just got a PS2 for $50 (had $250 credit after about a year...I charge everything except the rent). I usually get movie tickets though, for 1000 points ($1000 of charging) you get 2 unrestricted tickets for Sony/Loews/Cineplex. Considering they're $8.50 each now here in NJ, that's a great deal.

edit:
I asked a stupid question that was answered two posts up...

Link to Sony Redemption Form
Buy anything on your sony card and send them the reciept w/form and they'll adjust it out of your sony points! I've got 36k points so thats 360 worth of sony stuff. Now to find a good price on the PS2....

I have 16K points since last year and still wondering what I should get. I need to spend about 5K more to get the stereo they are offering . To me its not worth the trouble to use this card.

emonkey: Go to EB, buy the PS2 and fill out this form here. They will credit you up to the amount on your receipt at 1 cent per point (plus you will get 3 points per dollar spent). No one should ever use their catalog.

Holy smokes - it looks like you CAN purchase Sony items not listed in the rewards catalog:

The following text found here
--------------------------------
I am requesting (choose all that apply):
o TRIPLE/BONUS Sony Points for the purchase of any Sony product purchased with my Sony Card from Citi.
o A CREDIT* to my Sony Card account for the Sony item purchased on my Sony Card.

*When the credit is applied, all available Sony Points up to the amount purchased will be deducted and a credit will appear on your account. Note that the amount will be rounded to the whole dollar. Credit can only be requested by Primary Cardholder.

Examples: If purchase price = $100.49, maximum credit = $100, requiring 10,000 Sony Points
If purchase price = $100.51, maximum credit = $101, requiring 10,100 Sony Points
