I want a 2407FPW, but i can't justify it @ £540 (we get gouged on LCD pricing). The main useage is going to be watching movies and general useage. Don't play fps often but i'd like one that can handle it upon occasion. If it's as good as my Samsung 930 then i'll be happy.

I've done my basic research and these are the options:

Overclockers:
Belinea 2225D1W - £217
V7 L22WD 22" - £234
Viewsonic 22" VX2235wm - £317

Ebuyer:
Acer 22" AL2216Wsd - £259
BenQ 22" FP222WA - £259
Samsung 22" 225BW - £292

Scan:
Asus MW221U £277
Llyama 22" Prolite E22000WS-B1 - £260
Viewsonic 22" VG2230wm - £311
Viewsonic 22" VX2245wm - £337

Best value and best of the list recomendations would be appreciated. As would cheaper sites/sources. Thanks all.

No opinions on the 22" LCD market? Or has everyone run off and found things to be doing on new year's eve. Priorities people, priorities!

I have the Acer 22in and I have no complaints about it. Viewing angles suck on LCD's though. also, with 22in monitor the native rez is 1680x1050, so make sure you have a videocard that can run 3d games (that is if you game of course) decently at that rez, cuz as you start dropping down your resolution the IQ goes down the toilet.

also, almost all the 22in LCD's use the same Chi Mei TN panel. I read some review that had the Acer 22in pegged with the best color reproduction right out of the box.

at just 700:1 contrast ratio ... can you see things in shadows?

I got the dell 22 inch. It shipped yesterday. Like i said elsewhere, only thing i am worried about is the contrast.

And since i have been convinced all these 22 inch models use the same panel, i thought i should just go for the cheapest price. So i went dell. A first for me.

My monitor shipped yesterday...so hopefully, i will have a better opinion by mid week

And if you can read French, this review adds the latest models from Viewsonic and HP to the above review (select the monitor you want to read about in the menu at top right)

Thanks, very helpful read. Sadly my french isn't up to scratch anymore and the second made fairly heavy going

I didn't realise that manufacturers were so cheap as to ommit a DVI input, those are getting a pass instantly, i want and demand DVI and dual inputs wouldn't go astray.

V7 L22WD 22" - £217 - CMO pannel, think it's the same as the Asus one in the review. 1xDVI 1xVGA Cheapest and fastest, but colours look like they'll be ... iffy at best.

Samsung 22" 225BW - £292 Not much improvement over the V7, nicer build quality and it's a devil i know. Also throws in a rather pointless HDCP (don't have or want Vista).

Didn't know Dell did a 22", think more reading is still needed on the topic.

The Dell E228 is all-new and I have not seen any reviews on it yet. As is has just become available here in Canada, some members of this forum have ordered it and we should be able to read their reports soon. The expected deluge of web reviews should follow fairly rapidly.

From what I have seen on hardware.fr and behardware.com, the lack of DVI input on the european version of many monitors is due to a protectionist trade measure: monitors with a DVI input are considered as TV sets and subject to a special surtax. This leads to the fact that a given monitor model will not have a DVI input in the european market and will have it in the rest of the world. So, regarding inputs, one should not assume that what is true for Europe is true in North America, and vice-versa.

That's stupid enough to be true. Bloody tax laws.

A vote for the Acer from Xtknight, it's got the desired DVI and VGA which is nice. Price is reasonable too.

I'm used to the viewing angles and other flaws of LCDs, my first LCD was a Hitachi CM 174 (first 17" with 16ms response time!), still got it here actually.

Was going to go for the 2216WSD as recomended but some other git grabbed the last one (seemingly in the entire UK). So i've gone with the second choice option of the Asus, i'll just have to get used to the slightly off colours.

Thanks all.
