Abit IP35-E and Boxed E6750 CPU at many local B&M Fry's stores. MB is good up to 500MHz FSB (see review @ MB forum). There's a $20 Abit rebate. Board will run fine using those HP/Crucial DDR2 667 modules (1GB x 4).

Cheapest price AR is $70 for the MB. You're paying $159 for the E6750. It's a decent deal with a better than 50/50 chance of hitting +3.5GHz on air with quality 1.8V DDR2 800 RAMs.

Combo deal #5375098.

Pretty hot deal... for a huge mobo.

Too bad Frys.com usually does not have mobo/CPU combo deals.

Plus another $5 off by posting a review @ Pricegrabber. Final cost is $224 + tax + gas + 41 cents stamp. Be sure to disconnect the power to PSU and reset CMOS before attemting to boot the MB for the 1st time. It's also best to use brand name 1.8V DDR2 667 or 800 modules. Kingston "N5" ValueRAM and Crucial are okay. OCZ stuffs can be hit or miss. I believe Tigerdirect has 512MB x 2 Crucial Ballistix for $30 AR. Get four sticks!

*sigh* another Fry's in store deal that I can't get because it's nowhere near me.

Seriously - and I was looking to buy something exactly like this! Anyone want to buy it and ship it to me?

TO sweeten this even more, both the MB and CPU have a $5 pricegrabber rebate (but not for long, jump on it)

So I jumped on this deal earlier today, though I do not have a power supply yet to test the setup. Gonna pick up my Corsair 620w and Thermaltake V1 CPU fan tomorrow from mwave.

You may want to check out the Big Typhoon. Quads will heat up the MOSFETs and NB. A downward firing CPU cooler will also reduce temperature at the MOSFETs, NB, SB, and RAM. I like to swap the stock 120 x 25 mm with a medium speed 120x 38 mm Panaflo and lock-wire another low speed 80 mm Panaflo next to the 120 mm to cool the RAM.

I just got E6750, and believe me, this is the best processor I have ever own. Idle at only 23C-25C, and FAST! A lot better than my E6400. Get it as fast as you can. And Fry's deal is unbeatable.

The only draw back is the 8x multi. You'll need quality 1.8V DDR2 800 RAMs to get the most out of this processor. These sticks should be able to hit 450 to 480MHz with 2.0-2.1Vdimm and 5-5-5-15 timing. Crucial Ballistix 800 or 1066 will also work. Bump VTT, Vnorthbridge, and Vsoutbridge up ONE notch. Set Vdimm to 2.0 and 5-5-5-15 timing. Start out at default FSB setting. Use 1:1 memory divider. Adjust Vcore to 1.465. If board will boot into windows, then raise FSB by 5MHz and reboot. Repeat until board will no longer boot into windows. Use the previous bootable FSB setting to test for system stability. Run Memtest86 test #5 for 10 loops and Orthos Large mode for 10 minutes. If both are okay, then raise test time to one hour each. If system fails Memtest or Orthos, then back-off FSB by 2MHz and retest.

Use CoreTemp 0.95.4 to monitor peak temp. 60C would be my upper limit under Coretemp.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't overclock for years. And I don't plan heavy overclocking.

But now I have IP35 (not IP35-E, but should be same basically) & E6750 , and with default voltage, I adjusted the FSB to 375MHz, and now I have a 3.0GHz E6850 with no effort at all! $100 save right there.

Oh, yes, like what SerpentRoyal said, you have to reset CMOS, or it won't boot, my IP35 behave like IP35-E.

You probably don't need the full 1.465 to hit 3.5GHz. You could dial-in 438MHz FSB and attempt to boot. This board will take a capable chip straight into windows. No need to sneak up the FSB ladder.

Well, wasn't sold out in Palo Alto, but they are sold out of new ones. Apparently Fry's can sell you customer returns that are open box, not tested for DOA, for retail price. I spent about 4 hours setting up / testing my new rig tonight and guess what?? After some rigorous testing the processor was DOA.

Should've seen that one coming ... last time I go to Fry's B&M.

Keep the combo and come back next week to exchange for a new MB/CPU combo! You have up to 15 days for CPU and 30 for MB.

Yes, they will do that, for motherboard. Somtime with reduced price. I don't think they will do that for processor unless it's OEM.

I always pick the new & sealed motherboard on the shelves and ask the salesman for the CPU/motherboard combo, so I only get the processor when I check out at the cashier.

That way, you won't get a motherboard that's open box when you check out.

What if I can't find a new & sealed motherboard? Well, I just don't buy it.

IIRC the only time I ever had a DOA Intel CPU was an OEM chip from Fry's (back when I lived in SoCal). It was a P4 3.0E from the San Diego store.

I received a rain check for this combo last week, with the caveat that the rebate would not apply. Picked up the combo today, and the rebate was still good (good until 9/30). Portland Frys also had 2GB of Crucial Ballistic for $69.99 after $35 mir. Nice combo for $300 AR. Thanks OP!

Wow...how did you get a raincheck at Fry's? My local store would not do rainchecks. Glad you were able to score on a good deal.
