Am adopted. Grew up all my life, as a fairly tan kid with stark white parents. Always got teased that I was Indian or a beloved patriot, latino.... etc. Never felt I belonged 100% to any type of race because I had no clue. Grew up believing I was Italian and Irish because that's just what my adoption papers said I was.

My 3 most common surnames with DNA closest to mine are Rivera, Rodriguez and Perez. 75% mixture of Italian, Iberian (spanish/portuguese) and "Southern Europe" which is basically just Spain, Italy and Greece. I was also 7% Native American which is odd because my girlfriends Grand Father had a Aunt who was a legit Cherokee Tribe member, and he was just 4%.

Moral of the story: I spent way too much on college loans.

So how does somebody have an Aunt that is a legit Cherokee tribe member but their parents are not unless it was not a blood relative.

1/16th rule. Meaning all the Aunt needs is one Great grand parent to have been fully cherokee. Aunt was a blood relative of Grand Father, not marriage.

Love how that's the one thing you take away from my post. Now I remember why I stopped coming to this place. Same internet dicks, but now with Ads on the bottom.

Cool.

I did mine and it was more boring. No non-european ancestry on my dad's side. My mom was "Italian" but her grandparents were from Naples, which means that half is a nice blend of everything from Spain to Saudi Arabia, in 5-10% chunks.

Why yes, I have a shitton of chest hair. Why do you ask?

I don't think Ancestry provides medical-genomic data, so yes. And the FDA recently released 23andMe from those restrictions that they had imposed.

Only if you are Christian and believe in Adam & Eve. Were all incest. Isnt it great?

well, we all came from one common woman, way back when, because mitochondrial DNA is only maternally inherited. "Mitochondrial Eve" is a real thing. All males that exist today can likewise be traced back to one common, ancient male, because of the Y chromosome. "Y chromosome Adam" or whatever it is called. However, it's neither necessary nor likely that these individuals existed at the same time, let alone the same era.

I think I'll need to weigh buckshat's opinion on this one against your facts to draw my conclusion...

There wasn't just one Mitochondrial Eve, there could be many. There may be multiple lines of descendants all alive today from multiple Mitochondrial Eves.

If you are religious, your god could have made more than one Eve. For example, if you are Christian, the bible is not clear. Where did Cain and Seth get their wives (and maybe Abel, it is unclear whether or not he knew anyone before he was killed)? Were they marrying Eve, one of their sisters, or did God create additional women not specifically mentioned? We do not know. If God created additional women, then there could be multiple women we are descended from.

If you go based on evolution, why must there have only been one event that created the first life form (or first human)? Could not that event have happened more than once independently? If that is the case, there could certainly be multiple lines of people that are not related.

I'd like to know as well. Also, 23andme has a $100 test (pure ancestry) and $200 for some genetic analysis. Everyone goes with the $100 test but I find ancestry data not interesting and I don't see why everyone stops at their base line test.

I've been kinda curious to try that myself too. I'm not adopted but I don't really know much about my family history or origin going far back so it would be kind of neat to find out. That and the medical aspects could be useful too.

I suspect I probably have some Irish in me given the red hair, though could be Scottish too.

i did the 23&me test a year ago and my mother was fascinated by it. the genetic info is interesting as hell. i read something about my muscle make up being similar to elite athletes (even though i'm a fat bastard) and i'm wondering if that's myostatin related. makes me think sometimes about trying to get in shape again and see how quickly I can burn off the fat since 1st time I did it it was insanely quick
