CompUSA has a radio deal going at the stores. They are offering a either an internal HiVal 24/10/40 CDRW or an internal Pacific Digital CDRW 24/10/40 for $19. Plus if you but the CDRW drive you get a 50 pack of 16X Samsung CDRs. They were out of the Pacific Digital drives so I got the HiVal. Hey for $20 bucks what the He**. When I paid they charge me full price for the CDRs and said the get the rebate form. When I checked for the rebate the manager said it was an Instant rebate just like the drive and credited it back to me. COOL!

This is a radio only add. So you won't find it in their flyer or on the internet. But they did have add cards that said Radio on the self next to the CDRW drives. I heard the add on the radio driving home and made a quick detoure to the closest store. The add runs from today,Thursday the Sept. 19 until Saturday Sept. 21.

This is incredibly hot for anyone, especially those like me that don't buy based on AR price. PLEASE say this isn't a local deal.

I don't need this, but I have some friends who can use them. I just called their national center to check availability in my area. I told him a friend from another state called to give me the heads up, so I wanted to know if this was available in L.A. This is a national promotion. No print ads. You have to mention the radio ad to the sales person.

FWIW, the Lite-On's I've seen (including my 48x and 24x) have the LED at the extreme left end, the horizontal knob just to the right of the LED, and the eject pushbutton is at the extreme right and shaped like a medicine capsule. If you have a choice, and only one of the two comes with Nero, that may be a good choice, as well.

Scramble for these. At this price, they won't last.

Shzt, I just called local store, mentioned "a radio ad" and they said that the hival was 59.99 minus a $40 rebate, and the pac digi was 69.99. Any better luck when calling your local store?

EDIT: What did the radio ad say to do exactly? And which station/locality was it on?

EDIT2: For you conveniance, Linky1, and Linky2.

My CompUsa in Pleasanton wouldn't substitute the HiVal for the Pacific Digital. The lady told me they only had one or two of the PD CDRW's to sell. Jeez, is that a sale or what???????? That is one of the reasons I don't shop at CrapUsa anymore.

UPDATE -- A friend and his wife bought two (one each). They were different! Possible ID info:
One looks like a Lite-On (see my previous post). The box opens on the end, and it says, "Nero" on the box.

The other opens on the bottom and does not say "Nero." The unit has more "features" on the face, and the included software is NOT Nero.

Got two at Highland Park, IL store. No hassle - they knew about the offer. They also have Maxtor 30Gb for 39 bucks, as well as 32MB mp3 player for 19.
