I sooo want the new 24" iMac:

24-inch widescreen LCD
1920x1200 resolution
2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, or 2.33 GHz option
4MB shared L2 cache
1GB memory (2x512MB SO-DIMM)
250GB Serial ATA hard drive
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD+R DL, DVD±RW, CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT with 128MB GDDR3 memory, or 7600GT option with 256 MB
iSight
Built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0
Apple Remote

Hmmm... It's a cheap upgrade to the 7600GT with 256 MB RAM, so that's a no-brainer.

However, it's $$$ to upgrade to the 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo. Probably not worth it.

Wait, what C2D model is that? E6500? It has E6400's clock speed, but E6600's 4MB cache. So weird. No wait, they're using Xeon C2D on them.

Ah, that makes sense. The inside of an iMac is very tight and in a way it sort of looks like a blown up laptop.

$$$$ for a crap desktop ? No thanks. I'd buy it if it does/have the following for its price:

X1900XTX
2 GB Ram
500 GB Hd
Can play games

Seriously, STFU if you haven't used or are using a Mac. It's very annoying when people talk out of their ass when they have zero clue.

This iMac could certainly play games if you got the upgraded video card and put Windows XP on it. With the Core 2 Duo in it, this machine should be a screamer.

damn that's nice. add more RAM later and this machine will scream. oh BTW DJCrunkMix, what kind of idiot are you? this computer already comes with a 24" screen and that's atleast half the price. this iMac is priced well IMO. add the 7600GT and put windows on it and it should be a fast machine!

Hmm... It comes with Firewire 800. That surprised me.

P.S. Still trying to decide on the 2.33 GHz upgrade. I can get it for roughly half price (after reimbursements). Otherwise I wouldn't even consider it and just get the 2.16.

One thing that I find amusing is that the Apple commercials are always saying that "Macs are sooo much greater than PC's!", when in reality this thing IS a PC. For the most part, it's using stock PC and laptop parts, and it can run Windows just like one of those evvvillll PC's can.

Of course, "Buy a Mac, it's a PC in a prettier case with a different operating system!" probably doesn't make for a very good advertisement.

Dumb kids that think they're smart annoy me too. Bad combo.

And yes, that is a sweet Mac.

Dude, how many Macs do you have? It seems like everytime Apple comes out with a new product, you're looking to buy it. Not that there is anything wrong with it. But you'll need a big back roll to keep that up.

I have three Macs right now:

MacBook
iMac G5 2.0 <-- Home desktop
Cube <-- Work desktop

I want to replace my Cube. I'll bring the G5 iMac to work, and put the 24" iMac at home. Even though my Cube has a 1.7 GHz G4 in it, it's still too slow, and it doesn't support USB 2.0 either.

Same here... I'm debating picking up a Core Duo mini to replace it, or selling my T41 & Mini and picking up a Macbook.

I ordered the 24" with 2 GB RAM, 500 GB drive and 7600GT/256MB.

Says it will ship in a week. Anyone want to buy a Cube?

The best part about new Apple threads is the trolls who inevitably arrive on the scene to try and discount it.

 on the new iMac. Looks sweet.

Mmmm I really like the 24'' with 7600GT but how will the card do with that resolution in games?

i think it'll do okay...but the 128 bit bus will hold it back for sure. the C2D makes up for it though. dont expect to play games at 1920x1200 full blast...maybe at low-medium settings at that resolution.

but at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200, you can probably crank most of the details up with AA/AF.

The term PC is used to refer to any computer using Windows. Sort of like the term Google is now used to refer to a computer search.

Therefore, a Mac is NOT a PC, not even close.

The quality of the trolls today is rather low. At least in the pre-intel Mac days you could make a good case that Macs were over priced, with that arguement gone all the trolls seem to be grasping at straws.
