24' Monitors Buying Decisions

Hello

I am going to buy a 24' monitor for PC gaming and surfing the web. My computer is a 6600 with 2 g ram and a 8800GTX GPU. I have read all the reviews and have come to the conclusion that for the price the BenQ FP241 W is a very good buy. I have also made the conclusion for my situation the LG L246 is a better value. Here are my conclusions on things. Please tell me if I am wrong (IYHO) or if I have missed anything.

1. The Dell is a good budget monitor with a inferior screen and doesn't match up with the LG and the Benq.

2. There are problems with the Gateway and I should just stay away.

3. The NEC while nice isn't worth the extra money if it only being used as a PC gaming monitor.

4. The Benq FP 241WZ and FP241VW BFI feature doesn't add anything to the monitor and isn't worth the extra cost.

5. The BenQ FP241W has more inputs than the LG245 but since it is being used strictly as a PC gaming I will see no benifit from it.

6. The BenQ 241W and the LG246 use the same screen and although the LG only uses a HDMI to DVI cable I shouldn't have any problems.

7. The LG246 is $50 (cdn) cheaper ($799 vs $749 cdn) so it is a better value since I won't see any benefits from the BenQ.

So is my logic flawed?

Thanks in advance.

Wait... The Dell 2407wfp is a budget monitor???

I was going to buy it last week but it went off the 10% sale, so I will wait till it goes on sale again.I am interested in options but a monitor of that quality, A04 revision and IPS panel, for 600 with free shipping is great value, but I sure wouldn't call it budget because Dell has that kind of selling power to cut prices.

From WSgamingforum I haven't been able to be drawn to any other competitor.
What is the hottest 24" for the price then w/ Pro's & Cons???

I think you mean 24" monitor.... I didn't know they made any 24' monitors....

I wasn't aware that the 2407FPW was a budget monitor... it's not the best screen but for the price its your best option IMO.

Did Dell changed the 2407 to IPS? I thought it was a PVA or the PMVA panel.

I'm not sure what LG's dead-pixel policy is, but BenQ offers a zero-dead pixel warranty along with 3 years full coverage.

The one negative to the BenQ used to be no 1:1 pixel-mapping, but this has supposedly been fixed with the most recent firmware.

Hey Tundra, you are in Canada too... Just be patient. The 2407 was on sale for $649 about one month ago (Dell Days of Deals). You just have to wait for the price to get down again to that level, or possibly lower in the next big sale.

You have to subscribe to the Dell e-mail promo and check their web site twice a week.

I also like the LG and its price seems to be dropping steadily. They have it at Futureshop for $749 regular price. It is only a matter of time before they put it on sale.

In fact, if you subscribe to the FS newsletter, you got a $50 coupon last Friday for all web purchases above $500. So the LG is already at $699.

And don't forget the new Viewsonic VX2435WM for $799 at BestBuy.ca

BestBuy is Futureshop is BestBuy.

And sorry to say, there is no S-IPS available in the 2407.

What if you buy 24" LCD TV ? It will be cheaper, better and you can connect DVD-Xbox360-PS2-PS3 on it. I saw 23" SAMSUNG LCD TV and i was just FAC*ING AWESOME,
never seen picture like it on PC monitors.

Yes, you are very wrong on point #1. Dell is in no way a budget monitor, it uses an S-PVA monitor which is comparable to the P-MVA used by BenQ. It matches up to both the LG and BenQ. However, the consensus is that the BenQ is indeed the best 24" out there right now. Still, it has its own issues and seems to require way too many and frequent firmware updates. The LG is fairly new and not as popular so I'm not sure how well it stacks up. The Dell can be considered the "budget" of the 24" monitors as it is the cheapest of the bunch for less than $650 US or ~$700 CAN (got mine for $650) with regular sales. However, it is not 'budget' quality.

The Gateway, from what I hear, has 'inverse ghosting' and quality issues. Also, the 1 year warranty is a joke and deal killer.

I'd recommend either the BenQ for pure quality or the Dell for value and good quality (may want to add in good service?). The other ones I just haven't heard about enough.

I think it used to be lottery in the old days, with them slipping PVA's in and them getting some bad quality feedback, can anyone confirm they actually still do this? i don't beleive so, especially considering all monitors rolling out now i hear are AO4's.

What about the IPS panels. Initially i believe it was S-IPS, they then slipped PVA's in due to shortages. I never considered it a S-PVA, but actually an S-IPS generally. Still want to know for sure on this from anyone that recently rec'd one, what is rolling out currently S-PVA or S-IPS?

Edit: Nevermind, seems Bernard corrected me on it above.

The LG 246 is the best value + quality 24" LCD in Canada.

I have used it at werk, & have two buddies who own it.
Aside from the extra input which are really only useful if you're using it with your PS3 or 360, etc, it's the best value + quality 24" you can buy here.

Ya, you're thinking of the Dell 2007WFP. They had a lottery, and now I think they're back to IPS only. Don't think there has EVER been an IPS 24", otherwise I would have gotten it .

Yeah, got my facts wrong, but still the 2407wfp is nothing to sneeze at. I'll have to look at the LG more closely and check some reviews not sure on contrast but supposedly 8ms response . I wonder if it's an 8 bit panel and if it has backlight, banding or reflection issues. What's difference between P-MVA for the LG and S-PVA for Dell?

What panel is the 246? I can't seem to find specs on it (only the 245WP on widescreengamingforum's master list). The 245WP appears to be S-IPS.

The 246WP is $750 at Future Shop which is only $100 more than I paid for my 2407WFP. I might go take a look at it if they have in store out of curiosity.

FWIW the Benq 24's are $799-999 at Memoryexpress.com/Futureshop (Memoryexpress also has the LG 245WP at $750) and the Samsung 244T for $979.

LG 246 and 245 are basically the same, except one is for sale in B&M stores and the other on Web stores. Both have AU Optronics P-MVA pasnel, same as the BenQ and Viewsonic.

Thanks for all the responses. After reading them and carefully I have ordered a Westinghouse 37 W3  It was on a whim and not like me at all because I usually over analyze stuff.

I still can't believe I did it.

If you already have the Dell, i'm not sure it's worth worrying about.

But for someone w/o a 24" looking for one, the LG is what i'd suggest.

I think P-MVA panels are a tad better than S-PVAs overall, but it's a pretty small difference IMO.

the Dell 24 is awesome i got mine arnd 5 months ago and its the newest revision. the colors are great (if u need print color quality then there are amazing softwares out there for color callibration) The Blacks are black which is awesome.... and there more than enough inputs. not good for console gaming ... can be a little jarring but PC gaming is amazing.. sometimes if its been off all night and its cold near the monitor then the panel needs a few minutes to light evenly but yeah its only the corners(they get a few bright spots) .. but yeah if u can get it for like 600 its the best monitor arnd for the price.

How on Earth did you get the W3 in Canada? And for how much, it looks like a great monitor but just so expensive.

The 2407 was never offered with a S-IPS panel, just the 2007. i would take a s-ips 24" easily too (for a good price though heh).

GEOrifle, you notice how nobody responded to your post. That is because LCD Tv's are ****** as computer montors, Minus a few exceptions example the westinghouse models. A LCD monitor is generally much better for computer use than a LCD Tv. I won't get into details explaining why, you can either look it up or someone else and chip in.
