Last black Friday Fry's and Staples both had 24-inchers for $250 + tax. I'm expecting 24" to be ~$200 this BF.

fry's cheapest 24" on bf was 329 after rebate for a samsung tn. The soyo from office max had the potential to be a s-pva.

Just got the monitor and so far am very impressed with it. One complaint I have, and I'm wondering if others are experiencing the same, is when I adjust the angle to point up a little toward me it slowly goes back down to its initial position. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to remedy it?

Thanks.

This thread *is* so true. I went from a 19" LCD to a 22" and I was like wow. Then I got a Dell 24" on from one of those deals at the beginning of the year and was blow away at how much bigger it was when you looked at it. Then I got a 28" Hanns G and I am dumbfounded by the real estate and can't even picture myself ever going below a 24" in the future........

I know a few people switched their Soyo stands for retail ones. I got this for about $20 from CC last year.

It's on sale as much if not more than at its regular price.

I've never bought from them before. Opinions?

(Also... what does TN mean?)

# Disclosures:
# LCD displays may have cosmetic imperfections that appear as small bright or dark spots. This is common to all LCD displays used in products by all vendor and is not specific to any vendor or brand. Below are the acceptable amounts of "dot defects" for LCD displays that we sell:
# 20-Inch to 23-Inch:
# Total Defects: 8
# Bright or Dark Dots (random): 4
# Bright or Dark Dots (2 adjacent): 2
# Bright or Dark Dots (3 adjacent): 0
# Minimum distance between defects: 15mm (bright to bright dots)
# Minimum distance between defects: 5mm (dark to dark dots)

looks scary. My luck it would have 7 or 8 defects in the center or the screen.

Picked one up today, its the older TOPAZ S [D6] model with the P-MVA panel. Had to go to 2 different OM's to get it, as theyre all out of them, got the last boxed one, the other one is a floor display model. Currently there is a sale on the newer 24" [Pearl SERIES/E6] model with the TN panels for $249. But the manager wouldn't budge & I ended up getting the older, discontinued model for $280! No dead/stuck pixels, crossing my fingers it stays that way for quite some time!

However they sold me the extra year warrantly for 29 too, which I thought was unnecessary as this model is being discontinued & I don't want them to give me a cheaper/crappier model as a replacement; but then the sales girl mentioned to me if they don't have the same model they'll either offer me whatever new model is available or refund my money, is this correct; does anyone know about OM's extended warranty for electronics or LCD panels if the product is discontinued/unavailable in the future?

OM's extended warranty only applies after the manufacture warranty expired. Soyo will probably replace you with the TN Panel anyways.

If you people are still looking at the older MVA Topaz S model but can't, the same panel is used in the SVA 2400w. Different bezel, different look, but the same panel.

$280

http://www.walmart.com/catalog....do?product_id=9886614

For easy return but a tiny bit more expensive at walmart... you can return it locally if you don't like it.

Same MVA Panel as the Soyo Topaz S model.

Ignore the viewing angles showing 180/180, it's only 170/170 and the power consumption is wrong, it should be under 100watt like almost all LCD's.

Bought a 3ms Topaz S [DYLM24D6] from OM on Thursday; didn't see the 3ms on the box. Panel's manucfatured on Dec, 2007, but I think I might have gotten a P-MVA panel instead of those TN's.

Even though OM had the E6 on sale for 250 at the moment, they didn't give me a discount on the D6 & ended up paying 280+tax for it.

Theres massive backlight bleeding, simply because you cannot turn the backlight down, only mask it with pixel coloring on this model, probably coz its cheap. Also the picture doesn't turn negative from extreme angle, but backlight bleeding does was the picture out a bit.

I don't have anyother LCD to compare & see how TN's turn negative, until that is my own digital camera started to show the tell tall signs when I was taking pictures of the SOYO, for a second opinion, from angles. Then I turned to my cell phone screen & the same negative effect showed up when viewed from sides/top/botom.

However as seen form the pictures below, the colorful picture of Earth from space seems perfectly fine, but one particular test from http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/, so you can tell if you a panel is TN, shows the LAGOM word change color to light RED, but not pink when viewed from extremely wide angles.

* Pictures have been reduced to 50% original
* Some portions of the pictures removed to reduce their size, but LCD is kept untouched
* Several pictures werent were out of focus, even with MACRO turned on not much changed.
* I enabled FULL MODE while taking the pictures.
** Too much backlight bleeding & too bright for my eyes, so my usual settings are Brightness/Contrast=10, color temperature is USER & R/G/B=21.

While that may be true for most companies, there are very few companies that will push back for quality. It just doesn't happen in Taiwan or China either. Our last CM (contract manufacturer) was so poor in quality, even with all their years of awards hanging on their wall, that we ditched them. They can't even collect basic data such as SN, defects, quantity, etc let alone provide detail charts. Sadly, they are running because of all the companies that really don't care about quality of their products. Funny thing is most of the CEO's that also their business elsewhere had the very same reason. They want quality on their products

Didn't give a discount? At my OM, the D6 lists for $50 more than the E6 ($400 vs $350), so it sounds to me like they gave you more of a discount on the D6 than one gets on the E6!
