my wife isn't complaining about how much I want to spend, but worried that my new computer monitor may be too big for home use. I want the 2405fpw for home...but she thinks it will be too big.

What do you guys who have one think?

hah....my girlfriend said the same thing about my 20" widescreen monitor. I just don't like staring into a tiny box. I don't need the biggest though. I could've gone for the 2405 .

Some people who keep everything maximized all of the time find 20"+ monitors to be "too large." What actually needs changing is not the monitor, but their window managing habits.

I have a 21.3" 1600x1200 LCD, but wouldn't have minded a 24" 1920x1200 LCD if I could have afforded it.

Just keep in mind that if you plan on gaming that you have to maintain a very nice (and expensive) graphics card setup.

That's true, or image quality will suffer if you don't use the native resolution.

The hell does the wife have to do with it?

What do you tell a woman with two black eyes? Not a thing, you already told her twice.

Right now I'm using a 23" CRT, dont worry about your tiny 24" LCD. HA this thing is huge, atleast L24", W18", H18". You cant compete with this thing's size without going to TV. Hell my dad's 62" DLP is thinner than my CRT.

Who invited you?

The 2405 is not too big. Either your desk is too small, your wife needs her drivers/firmwave updated, or your windows management habits need to be adjusted.

personally I LIKE the extra wide windows on the bigger monitor. *grin* Then again I have dual monitors as well (19 inch secondary). I would have sprung for the 2405 if 1. it hasn't been about 300 more, and 2. I wouldn't have had to upgrade my video card from the x800xl I have now, which just wouldn't have pushed WoW on that 2405 very well.

Elopes, dont post/troll. Dont know about you but I can find a billion unbiased posts from Rollo. It is people like you who start all these dumb arguments.

Well, you could say "Screw it. Im getting the monitor whether you like it or not". BUt women dont respond well to orders, only like to give them.

You do know that when you got married you basically said, "I promise to do whatever my wife says, no matter how stupid or irrational it may be".

I would:
A. Try to explain it and prove your point
B. Obey her order (arguing past the first step is useless, they always win)

I dont think the monitor is too large, and I've had mine for about two weeks. Of course I was up grading from 2x17" CRTs that took up the entire desk. Also unlike other LCDs, the dell 2405FPW does a very good job handling non-native images. I was playing Battlefield 2 at 1024x786 and it looked great.

Uninstall Wife.
Install Girlfriend 2.0.
Sorted.

No seriously, I'm sat in front of a 2005 all day at work, and I do think that from my normal viewing distance (about a meter), the 2405 wouldn't be too wide. My definition of too wide being that head movement is required for a comfortable switch from left to right edge.

Just go with the proven technique of "Trust me it will be fine" then once it arrives and she realises how bloody massive it is just make up an excuse why it can't be returned.
