My 2 cents.. wide screen can seem smaller then a 4:3 monitor of the same measurement. I think you will find that a 24" WS doesnt feel much bigger then a 21" CRT. I just got the 20" Dell WS, it definitely looks smaller then the 21" CRT sitting next to it despite having identical viewable area diagonals.

24" doesnt feel much bigger than a 21" CRT? Have you even used a 24" LCD?

that's good hear, since I just got both this monitor and that video card.
more psyched for HL2, though.

Eh.. sort of. It's significantly blurrier than 'real' AA, and it affects everything onscreen (including text/GUI elements). With newer monitors, though, it's not horrible.

Also, things to note: 1900x1200 is only 18% more pixels/frame than 1600x1200. If you can run 1600x1200 w/ 4xAA with a given card, you can probably run 1900x1200 w/ 2xAA at about the same framerate. If you're stepping up from 1280x1024 to 1900x1200, you might have to cut your settings back significantly to keep the same framerates.

Also, on the 2405FPW you can run 1600x1200 non-scaled, and just have two blank columns of 150 pixels on each side of the screen. This will look as sharp as the native res, but won't be widescreen (also good for games that don't support widescreen resolutions well...)

I'm not gonna get involved with the whole spouse thing. OP, you might check out AVSForum... I've seen threads there about this same issue (usually wrt big HDTVs, but the same thing sort of applies).

ok, if you game or do other video based stuff or art or photo etc, the no it isnt too big, if all you do is email and post on forums, then yes, its a waste of money for you, however not for other people, the more fools buy this that dont need to, the quicker the price drops for the rest of us...heh

personally i wouldnt say its too big, but then im planning hooking my computer up to my projector im gonna get sometime in August........that'll be playing CS:Source on an 8ft screen...lol
(thats 8ft along the base, so prolly nearer to 10ft diagonal...yeeehaaaa)

17" was fine when you don't heavily multitask or game at high resolutions. I moved to a 19" Samsung 930B because I wanted a much larger screen, I wanted to game at 1280x1024 and I wanted to cut down the excess heat a CRT was making.

Well, you could say "Screw it. Im getting the monitor whether you like it or not". BUt women dont respond well to orders, only like to give them.

You do know that when you got married you basically said, "I promise to do whatever my wife says, no matter how stupid or irrational it may be".

I would:
A. Try to explain it and prove your point
B. Obey her order (arguing past the first step is useless, they always win)

For a guy in high school you are wise beyond your years...

Lol... i wish i would have taken my own advice though. Its SOOO easy for me to post this, but doing, hell not that easy. Also this is sort of uniform for girls i would assume. They always win.

No they don't, not if the GF/Wife is a geek aswell. Now I know how that is, I wouldn't have it any other way... it does get a bit expensive though: In our case it is practically an arms race in toys. She buys a IBM T40, I retalliate with a 2005FPW and a 1704FP as a secondary, then she splashes on an IPod mini...

To the Topic on hand: If it is only one monitor, 24" is not large at all! Find ways to increase the Woman Acceptance Factor at all costs.

This feature is what sold me on this monitor. Especially when the 2001FP runs so well, I thought that the loss of higher performance would be too much to give up (forcing aspect/running at native for newer games). Ingenious idea and implementation.

I've run my projector off the comp before, and that is, in my opinion, too big.
Fun, but too big for daily use.

just talk about getting a projector, and the 2405 will seem the rational option to her.
Plus, after getting used to the monitor, I'm sure she'll acclimate nicely.

this hardware transcends negotiation.

I'm just curious, but if you were to run a game at a resolution that is exactly half of the native (say running a game at 800x600, which is exactly half of 1600x1200), would that prevent the game from getting "blurry" since there is no pixel approximation going on, just a straight 2x2 pixel increase. Basically, what was 1 pixel is now 4 pixels.

I've run 800x600 on my 2001 and it still seems blurry, worse than 1024x768 even.
1024 didn't look too bad, it's kind of stylized, actually. I played Pirates! for a couple of days before realizing it was scaling to 1024...
