Many users report this in all resolutions, with both DVI and VGA, test videos showing the lag have also been posted. I assume it's real.

As for 2407, no one knows. Right now, the lag seems to affect monitors with large 20"+ overdriven VA panels.

Thanks for that last bit of info, darXoul. I was wondering what might be the common factor among the displays with this characteristic, and you say it is overdriven VA panels. That is helpful as a buyer to know what to avoid. I definitely experienced it on a 21" widescreen LCD on display in CompUSA a couple weeks ago. It was the HP f2105. I'm guessing that is a VA type display also but I don't know where I could find that information.

Yes, the HP monitor also features Samsung's 8 ms g2g S-PVA panel. I though it only affected S-PVA panels but I've also read a "lag report" regarding the ViewSonic VP2030B. This display is based on AU Optronics 8 ms g2g P-MVA panel. That's why assume the delay problem affects VA panels. All the monitors that I heard had this lag are overdriven, e.g. Samsung 214T. Samsung 204T is just a "plain" 16 ms monitor, and I've read nothing about possible input lag in its case.

wow, good to know! Any idea if the Sony P234 is a _VA panel? Also, what other types are out there? I think I've heard of S-IPS?

It doesn't look like manufacturers readily tell you the type of panel on their websites. How do you find out this info?

Can someone please explain what overdrive is and what are it's benefits? If it produces lag, I see that as a negative attribute that far outweighs any benefit.

Sony P234 is based on S-IPS. Most important panels for consumer LCDs right now are TN, P-MVA, S-PVA and S-IPS. There are some sources where you can find the monitor panels. You can also guess with high probability based on specs. I often use this source though:

Overdrive, in a nutshell, is pixel precharging to make the LC's react faster.

Here's a useful link:

Thanks for the link. After reading about overdrive, I definitely rather NOT have this feature. I would be watching movies on my LCD, so video noise is unacceptable. I am guessing the 2405 suffers from these miscolored pixels?

LCD = compromise, and S-IPS is not perfect either.

IPS panels used to have poor contrast and black levels but now, they boast pretty good contast, and blacks are OK as well, though perhaps not as deep as on VA panels. S-IPS = best colors and viewing angles. Now, also very fast response, and stable across the entire spectrum. The only downside may be the IPS-typical shimmering effect which is troublesome for some users. Video noise is also a bit more pronounced than on other panels, especially P-MVA.

Pretty much all LCDs "pixel crawl" in movies a bit. The best panel for movies purely in terms of noise is the P-MVA panel. On the whole, if you increase your distance from the screen a bit, any quality modern LCD should be OK in this department.
