I am thinking of going for a 240Hz 1440p monitor. I am not sure which one to get, if any. I would prefer flat as opposed to curved, and I am not sure what panel type would be best. Any recommendations for buying now or ASAP? Or is it best to wait a bit for more to come out?

Shmee, what size monitor? I have a BenQ 3501R (3440x1440) ultrawide 35" but it only runs at 100Hz. Freesync though and a gorgeous all around monitor for my 3900x/Rad VII combo.

The 3900x is custom water cooled with an Optimus wb and the Rad VII is also under water with an EK block. I'm using an MSI X570 Unify mb with 32g DDR4-3600 Gskill ram. This is housed in the new Fractal Define 7XL (huge sucker that holds a thick 480mm rad top and thin 360 rad in the front). I'm also, like you, using the Uber fast Sabrent Rockect PCIe4 1TB ssd combine with a 2 TB Sabrent PCIe3 ssd.

Your Red Devil 5700XT should run very well at 1440p.

What monitor are you using now?

I have the one in my sig, the Asus MG278Q. It is a 27" TN 2560x1440, 144Hz with freesync. It works well so far. I would look for the same resolution and similar size, 27 to 32 inches, but higher refresh and possibly a better panel tech.

Err what video card do you have that will do 1440p 240hz?
5700XT currently, but big Ampere or big Navi could be my next GPU upgrade. I usually change monitors less frequently than GPUs.

I have seen several VA and a TN out that fit this description, but the IPS ones aren't out yet to my knowledge. These are what I have actually found available. https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=monitors&N=600012694 600338123 100898493

I am running 5700XT with a Benq EX3203R which can do 144Hz. Honestly I am not sure I will be able to tell the diff between 144Hz and 240Hz

Yeah I am likely going to wait for IPS versions to come out, at the very least. Will revisit around black Friday.

Im pretty sure i read somewhere going past 120hz is pointless, as it will mitigate all the frame blur which people claim 60hz has when gaming fps.
Human eyes on average can do 60fps, while best of best says somewhere near 90fps.

Also not to mention its 90fps when your focused hardcore on that spot, and not spaned out like you would in a FPS, unless your camping with a sniper rifle.

Shmee the Oddessy series from samsung with QLED does 240hz.
Comes in the ultra wide, and normal G7:

And ultra ultra wide G9:

The new Odessey series from Samsung runs 240Hz VA, but it has a very steep curve 1000r, which is why I would not buy it.

Ack he beat me to it.... ^

Im hearing really good things about the QLED monitors tho.
Especially with the HDR1000 and QLED which is supposedly better then nano IPS which LG has.

Well technically Samsung QLED is supposed to be direct competition against OLED in the HDTV segment.

Yeah I was considering both of these before,(the HP Omen X and the Samsung Odyssey G7) but I figure I may as well wait a bit longer, plus I am not really sold on curved.

The Eve spectrum looks very interesting, but IDK when it will be available. Hopefully I can get something like it coming out soon after I get my 6800XT.

I have the G9, the steep curve is not even something you think about after about 3-4 days. The sheer side to side expansiveness of it is something I'm still coming to grips with though. Start button WAAAAAY over here......System tray WAAAAAAY over there. Plus some games simply aren't meant to be played at 5120x1440-32:9 and I end up running them at 3440x1440 or 2560x1440 with scaling disabled. The first time you fire up Doom Eternal though at 5120x1440........you know why you bought it, it's nearly the equivalent of the first time you fired up your first game on a VooDoo card.

Put the taskbar vertically to the left, that is what I do

i put it to the right... lol..

Also @ the curve comment, honestly, its not that bad.
I actually prefer a curve now as it tends to reduce glare from ambient light during the day.
The glare is more concentrated on you as the focal point, and you blocking the ambient light tends to reduce overall glare.
Well this is also another reason why i get matte monitors and not shiny ones.

But i seriously think you guys should not judge a monitor on its curve, it really becomes almost unnoticeable after a few days of use.

I did buy the 27 inch Samsung Odyssey G7 some time ago but had to return it due to major screen flickering when using VRR. Happy to see that Samsung has finally released a firmware (1009.3)that fixes this issue:

This makes the G7 the best 1440P 240Hz monitor on the market if you don't mind the curve because it will trounce all IPS monitors (with the exception of 1000 dimming zone monitors but those are stupid expensive) with it's contrast levels due to being a VA monitor (it's also the only VA monitor without black smearing) and it has top tier input lag. I think I'll have to buy this again, I had 0 confidence in Samsung ever fixing it. I'm glad they've proven me wrong.
