What do you plan to do with it? Work, groceries, road trips? How many miles per year? Solo, married, kids? Do you "get into" cars or just point A to B?

If you can afford a BMW 328i - Buy it.

Personally I would love to get my hands on a 1974 BMW 2002.

Styling and doors. That's the difference. That said, it's an subjective decision so get what you need between those two distinctions. Well, and price. Is the 428 $3200 better than the 3 given two less doors? That's up to you. Granted, after a deal is made, the price difference may be lower, but a difference nonetheless.

I'd look into resale between the two as well. Not sure if coupe vs sedan is going to have a large effect.

I just like to drive. Mostly to work and back. It's just important for me to enjoy what I'm driving. The hard part is, I like most anything in that 30k+ class of cars LOL. I test drove a fusion titanium tonight and loved that almost as much as the 328i.

Hmmm you might like the infiniti q40/q50 as well

If money is no object just keep going and getting test drives until you pick one.

If you like the 328i, I highly suggest a 335i. If you like driving, I think you'll find it more fun. Look for the M package for suspension as well.

Better yet, if you don't need the size, but the BMW "speaks" to you, try a 2-Series as well. Fun factor goes up even more.

(I own a 1-Series so I am a bit biased)

I would personally prefer a 335i for all-around driving, but interestingly the 328i is quicker around a track. Depending on one's driving style it might be more fun all around, and it's certainly cheaper and more fuel-efficient.

I hate the plastic fender scoops on the 4-series.

I drove an M4 and an M235i back to back and vastly preferred the M235i. The 4-series just feels like a boat, even in M-guise. The M2 should be along shortly for under $60k.

I prefer the looks of the 428i.. but if all you could afford was the 328i with the M Sport package or a base 428i, I'd do the 328i.

328 over the 4. If you can afford the 335 it's a no brainer. Sport package is a must on any of these. I bought a Lexus is350 instead and couldn't be happier. Give it a test drive. Power wise it's between a 328 and 335 but man it handles like a champ. For bmws I cross shopped with an e90 335 w/ m sport and dinan stage 1 and an off lease Current gen 328 w sport. It was up there with the e90 in handling but without the harsh ride. E90 interior was dated and was weary about the condition.

I don't think you can go wrong in this category these days...

You can do 328i with Dinan Stage 1. It's more balanced than the 335i.

That's a huge selling point. My buddy has a 335i and it tips over on the drivers side all the time. Apparently each side view mirror in the 328i are the same weight, remedying this issue.

No, part of the 335i block sits slightly forward of the front axle while the 328i block sits just behind it, because 4 cylinders.

That's weird, you'd think that would make them tip forward onto the grill instead of over onto the drivers side. Have they maybe started mounting the engines transversely?
