Agreed. Have you tried Dell's support lately? It absolutely svcks. I had a problem with my new 4550 in that it would blue screen when opening IE. It appears that some (all?) of the Dell support is staffed in Bangalore, India. Three different techs and not one solution...

Yo,

I got this yesturday and I am using it to type this message. It's a lot quieter than the PC I built myself ( 4 case fans including the PS). It runs like a champ and has very good documentation in my opinion. Setup was easy, color coded wouldn't you know. All in all the price might be beat by DIY but getting this retail for $250 and having the ability to return it within 2 weeks if it doesn't work out makes it a HOT DEAL!

LMAO... that is sooooo true. I mean, no offense to anyone, but it just happens to be a fact that every single time I've ever called Dell, I talk to someone who sounds just like Apu from the Simpsons.

Picked one up for my son. Took out the cd drive that came with it and replaced it with a dvd drive I already had. Added a cdrw drive I also already had and added a 256 meg stick of memory ($37 at Sam's Club). Stripped off the software I don't use. It runs real well and quite speedy for such an inexpensive machine. As soon as my son copies his data files off his old computer I will reformat one of the hard drives in the old machine, add it to the Emachine as a data drive and it will be one nice machine for a teenager.

A very good deal for someone who isn't a gamer.

Pure BS..........geez, I'd have thought you were smarter than that. Of course you can change components with XP, Home or Pro. You can change a lot until it needs to be reactivated. Did my mother's.....new mb, cpu, ethernet card, hd. Still didn't need reactivating, but I was probably right at the point of needing to. I have done wholesale changes on computers with XP, even if it needed reactivating, was always painless and have rarely had to call, usually just reactivated across the net.

DEAD, DEAD,DEAD.
I called 3 stores in my area and the system is now listed at $399. I called yesterday and it was $249. I couldn't get to the store last nif=ght so it looks like I missed this one. Dam, I wish I had made the time to go out and get one.

Pittsburg, CA has 10 or so of these on the shelf for $249 and the sign said until 6/28. I had to pick one of these up as a backup while I do some work to my real computers. I am not sure if I will keep it past the 14 days.

Dead in Minneapolis too....kinda. I called 3 stores and all had it for $249 but only if you bought the packaged monitor with it for $209. Not sure what kind of monitor it was...might be still good if you need a monitor. I did manage to get one yesterday though, when the price was still right.

I ended up buying one today after debating about it. Got lucky too.

I was in there earlier when the tag still showed $249 but still couldn't decide if I wanted it.

Came home, checked my email then checked AT/FW and noticed people saying the deal was dead and the price went back up. I jumped in my car and went back to CC where I found the guy who helped me earlier. I told him I decided I wanted it and he said the price went up to $399. I did some quick talking: I was just here and needed to go to the bank He said let me see what I can do then called the Mgr and explained the situation. The Mgr said I could get it for $249

The csr was pretty cool since he didn't have to push for me. I even tried to give him $10 for doing this for me but he wouldn't take it. He said next time I come in just bring him some coffee

You know what, the sign that I saw may have said 6/18 and the deal may be dead in my area also. Wife has me on some weird diet, I am blinded by hunger.

I got in on this deal. Quick question though. Can I just drop in a stick of 256 MB RAM in this and keep the 128MB that is in there for a total of 384MB, or do I need to install the memory in pairs?

Thanks in advance.

Common sense would say that if you have more than 1 dimm slot, plugging additional memory won't be a problem.
