164 lbs.

Is that correct? Why is it so heavy? Like a LCD WEGA or something.....

according to Olevia's website:
Gross Weight 164 lbs
Net Weight 132.3 lbs

Not sure what they mean by Gross weight... Shipping weight? Or like with all parts and speakers? Even at 132 it is substantially heavier then comparable models. It makes mounting this more difficult. Seems like a decent screen though.

Wow, I can't imagine what makes that so much more heavy. I think my 46" Samsung LCD weighs 65 lbs?

Review: http://www.ultimateavmag.com/f...eldisplays/1206olevia/

This was Olevia's stab at the high-end market a year ago. They used the highest quality video scaler available, and the TV's were pre-calibrated for proper 6500K color temperature BEFORE leaving the factory. It looks like the 7-series was a bit of a flop, though, since it can be had at 25% of original MSRP now.

Still, the only real downside of this unit is worse than average black levels. I would say it's still an above average value at $1000.

up to 1099 now, but still seems like a good deal-nice find OP! I had 2 questions though:
1) The compusa in my area is already out of business-I'm guessing online is still trying to get rid of stock?
2) More of a statement-Don't know if the 164 pounds is accurate either (i.e. I am agreeing with some earlier posts). My 42 inch lcd is 80ish pounds, I don't see how an extra 5 inches doubles the weight.

While it could very well be 164lbs, I find it hard to believe even if you include the built-in stand and a thicker glass screen.

I mean, even 100lbs is probably on the heavier side of a 47" LCD, but 164lbs !?

Edit: After reading some user reviews, I guess it really is that heavy....yikes.

Steve, looks like a sweet deal that you found, but I can't help but commenting on the facts in your signature.

Population of the world 6.6 Billion
Acres in Texas: .172 Billion

So its actually more like a 38 person family per acre. Not to say it is or is not a problem, just that the fact is incorrect.

You know, its rather ironic that I love heavy electronics and consciously or subconsciously view it as a marker of quality, yet 164lbs LCD really turns me off. I want to get this but part of the reason I want a new flat panel is ease of moving and mounting. This looks like a good deal but I wonder how necessary the extra weight is? In audio equipment it's usually a good sign (due to anything from heavy glass tubes to heat sinks, capacitors, etc.?). Is the heavy glass or frame worth it?

Any thoughts?

The Westinghouse is a $999 LCD for $999. The Olevia was a $2500 LCD last year that's now $999. If you look at the reviews, you'll see that the Olevia used a reference-quality video processing chipset, which reduces MPEG compression artifacts and has better 1080P scaling.

Good point and the reason why I am interested in this. I'm not quite ready with my new apartment for this TV and being 164lbs only makes it harder to figure out where it's going. I'll need a serious wall mount.
