Well just did a $3,000 transfer from my checking account... and got the following on the confirmation page:

I will trust them with up to 100,000. They are FDIC insured, so you won't need to worry about losing your money.

Gee, I hope I'm not seriously ripped off by them. Providing them my info is either really smart or really stupid.

I wouldn't worry about ING Direct - it is backed by ING Group which is one of the largest financial companies in the world.

You can't really compare ING to Newegg. ING is a listed company (NYSE:ING) and is a very large financial company. They are FDIC insured for $100,000 so unless you want to put that much money in there I wouldn't worry.

QUESTIONS? READ HERE ---------------------------

Hey guys.
First of all, I think people need to learn to search to see if their "hot deal" has already been posted. This must be the 10th time I saw ING direct here in hot deals. Everyone just trying to profit .
I started an account recently with INGdirect. I started with the $25 referral deal. I just browsed through one of the ING posts and found the guy who had the most helpful information and used his link. Simple eh? I had to give him his due for taking the time to write out so much information.

So the questions I saw..

Interest Rates - Interest Rates are Variable. What that means is that it changes. Because the economy is not so good right now, the interest rates have been dropping (makes people stop saving money and using it for investing in other things). It is at a pretty all-time low at 2.2 here at ingdirect. It used to be 6.6% sometime ago. It dropped from 2.3 to 2.2 while I was deciding whether to do ING haha. However when the economy picks up, so will the interest rates, so don't worry about that. It will always be a whopping 6-7 times better than what you get from let says wellsfargo or BOA. They are able to give high interest because they have no physical branches, so they save lots and pass on some of it to their customers.

Transfers, How many business days - As it is listed. It says 2-3 Business Days. However just so there is no surprises, your Initial deposit will be some 5-10 days for security purposes. After that they promise 2-3 business days. Remember it is BUSINESS days not any day.

Two Little Deposits - For me, the deposits took a while, mainly b\c I did it late in the week. I opened an account on a thursday. Took several BUSINESS DAYS. The small deposits came mid-week of the following week. Everything went smoothly then after. The $25 was there. Remember there is no minimum, so you can litereally open an account with $1 and get $25 free. However with these interest rates, you might as well put all your money. I left just enough to avoid minimum fees in my BOA account and put the rest in ING.

Trust $10 or 10K? - I deposited 10K lol. Exactly 10K. I am hoping to keep depositing every once in a while, keep saving, and have a large amount when I am older.

I too, obviously, have the referral link I can send you via email. Just email me paul_lee@uclink.berkeley.edu and I will get you the link most likely by the end of that same day. Promise . If you want to drop a line to ask questions about the bank, I'll be happy to reply. Ok good luck guys.

for every 100 people, you're gonna have at least 2 who are numbnuts =) sometimes the bad reviews aren't even about the company... for instance, a possible negative review for newegg: i hate this video card, its so slow won't get me 100fps on quake III

by the same token, someone could say this about ING:

omg i hate the site, i can't ever get to any sites... everything is so slow on my netzero/aol

^^

Oh yeah... Here's another package deal for ING...

[link deleted]

Basically instead of a free $50, you'll a free copy M$ Encarta Reference Suite (~65 at most B&M's) and M$ Picture It.

The Reference suite is well worth the deal over the free $50.00 if you need that kind of stuff. Though personally, I just get my info online.

Thanks for the info, I just signed up with them.

I went to the view my account stuff and it was still at $0.00.

I'm assuming the $25 bonus doesnt show up till after you confirm your bank account? Is this correct?

For everyone asking about interest rates...

If you want to lock in an interest rate, you need to buy a C/D (certificate of deposit). This will lock in a certain interest rate for a certain amount of time. The 2 problems with C/Ds are (1) you cannot withdraw the money for the duration of the C/D, and (2) if interest rates go up during the duration of the C/D, tough cookies.

What we are discussing here is a standard savings account, so the interest rate is going to vary. Interest rates have been dropping pretty consistently over the past few years, so ING Direct's rates have been dropping as well. This is bad if you're saving money but great if you're borrowing it (mortgage, car loan, school loans, etc.).

As others have said, ING Direct is a huge corporation, publicly traded, and FDIC insured. I trust them as much as I trust my brick-and-mortar bank. I actually closed my savings account at my brick-and-mortar bank and moved all the money over to ING because of the better interest rate.

Looks like this deal is open to new customers only.

I did this about a year or two years ago, and looks like it wont let me open a new acct since I'm in the system already.

Nice deal though...

What the heck does this mean?

Funding Information Errors:
For security reasons, we cannot use the personal checking account you have entered to open your Orange Savings Account. More than two or more people already own this link.

This is after I entered all my bank information

Darn! I did this for $25 a few months back and now I can't do it again. Grr! I wonder if giving it a different SSN will let you in... by law, you're not required to give you SSN to anyone except the federal government

Let's make it more HOT, how about $50 instead of $25?

Go here. Click either "GO" or continue. Did this about 2 weeks ago, funded it with $1. Works as advertised.

I got the same thing. In my case, I think it's because my checking is a joint account with my wife. Either that, or maybe it's because I already have several accounts tied to automatic transfers on my checking. The latter doesn't make much sense, because I don't know how they could possibly get that info. But I'm pretty sure that they can tell automatically if a checking account is in just your name or in multiple names.

Think of the money we can all save if we don't have to tell the gov't how much interest we've earned!

I have this as my saving's bank for the past couple of years, any excess in my checking account after paying my bills are transfer to them. The only bad thing is like most internet bank, you have to deposit your money(like our rebate checks) to a local bank, and then transfer it to ING.

I think you can mail your checks too but I would rather not take a chance on USPS.
