They are not a business. They will be continuing to make them. Just be patient.

THIS. /THREAD. /PWND.

i could only imagine of the cries "HEY! i didnt get one on launch day! how could they only make 10k units! waaahhhh!"

first, the first run was small just to make SURE that everything is working as it should. the 2nd run will be a revised run and likely for a larger quantity.

second. they are not in this for money. they really had no reason to even sell a single one to any public member this time around. they could have easily just gave the first batch away for development. the fact that we have a CHANCE to get one this early is proof of their immense effort.

third, who really cares if you dont get one right now? its going to be months before we can just load up a customized operating system and go straight to playtime. my guess is a lot of people will get these units this month and then say "wtf? theres no good software for this! raspberry pi sucks!"

just be patient. like i said earlier, i just hope to get one by summer time because i think thats when we will start seeing easy to install media center bundles and other programs that will REALLY make this thing useful. for now, keep running your torrents on your nas please.

$60? Not worth it at that price. I'll wait for a US distributor, which I would imagine wouldn't be long.

Both of the UK distributors (RS and Farnell) have US affliliates (Allied and Newark respectively) and those would seem the logical US distributors. In fact, both have links on their US websites - right now Allied is just letting you register "I'm interested" (name and email) but Newark is taking orders (right now to be shipped from England in a month and with excessive shipping charges, but that will likely change over time).

That is old info. There are not 10k runs anymore. Farnell and RS licensed the RPi and quantity is now out of the Foundation's hands. Farnell and RS will quickly ramp up production to meet demand. There will be no waiting after about 2 months as the supply comes online. The batches of 10k was when the Foundation was planning to do all the logistics themselves. That is not the case anymore.

They have updated the site and clarified that the $20 charge was a mistake in the system. They are refunding it.

Has anyone stopped to consider that this could be an elaborate scam? It's just the way the ordering process is going...getting lots of people worked up into a buying frenzy and then after they start taking orders, who's to say that they ever get shipped or even exist in the first place.

not a chance. the problem lies in them being already months past their original goal of launching these last year. its already march and im sure they feel that the longer the delay the less valuable these will become.

they also believed they could handle all the orders themselves, and that turned out to be unrealistic. so they are just scrambling to get everything going... and its expected that a non-profit organization cant put a ton of resources into their en devours.

Just got my email saying I am now allowed to order from Newark. Placed the order, but it didn't give me any shipping costs. Hopefully it doesn't end up being much...

"wtf? theres no good software for this! raspberry pi sucks!"

It runs Linux on ARM, so there should already be a ton of software available for it thanks to the Beagle Board and all of the other embedded Linux products before it.

I very much doubt it. The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a registered charity in the UK. Farnell and RS, the UK distributors for the R-Pi are both large legit multinational companies.

I think a future release will have an option for a case. Currently, people are custom designing cases for it. E.g. there are a few lego based cases.

Yeah, a case will be included in the "consumer" (educational) release, I think that's supposed to be sometime in the Q3 2012. Someone will probably release a case before then since the educational release would also include manuals and kid oriented software which most of us probably wouldn't use.

I ended up ordering it this weekend (stayed up for the release but gave up when the sites wouldn't load, and I was hesitant to order until the $20 handling fee was resolved), I got an email this morning saying my expected ship date is 5/15
