how does this internet postage work? Do you need a special printer, or paper? How is the postage affixed onto the package (just tape?). Sounds kinda intriguing, since it woudl save me on trips to the PO for my FS/FT stuff...

Just signed up. I figured what the heck worst is that I would pay the $15 something after the first month. Plus I always use AMEX private payments numbers so that I cannot be charged redicilous amounts without my knownledge.

thanks for the deal

This deal is definitely not as sweet as the one offered late last year.

I got a sweeter deal by using the disk offered at CompUSA stores. This may still be available. The disk was needed to get this deal.

Cancelled at three weeks, kept the scale (ordered via OD), no charge to my account, $25 free postage, received gift card a week after canceling.

Scale is good, though gives weight (not actual postage) only.

For ongoing service (and international postage, too), Personal Post, a postage scale and meter from Pitney-Bowes is a better deal. Free first 3 months, $16.99 thereafter.

<<Sign up for the Personal Post? Postage Meter and Scale and get the first 90 days FREE: You only pay for the postage and supplies you use (an initial $30 postage deposit is required). After the free trial, pay just $16.99 for the remainder of 2 full years (plus the cost of postage, supplies and refills), and the scale will be free to use for as long as you have the meter! Plus, you'll receive 4 meter refills for free.*
If you're not completely satisfied during the free trial, return the meter and scale with no further obligation. Any unused postage will be fully refunded by the USPS.
*After that, refills are $5 each.>>

By the way, it's not a 2-year obligation. You can return it anytime. After 2 years, it's yours.

You can buy refills for the special ink cartridge; I've found cheap cartridges on EBay.

Or for internet postage... PB Clickstamp @ $1.49 per month plus postage. First month free.

This deal fits in here. A couple of weeks ago I was at Sam's Club and found a Stamps.com Internet Postage Starter Kit that contained the following items: 150 3-part label sets, 40 2-part label sets, 60 9"x12" envelopes, 60 #10 ink jet envelopes, 40 #10 window envelopes, 6 greeting cards & envelopes, 8 matte postcards (2 per sheet),24 invitation cards & envelopes. This package weighs about 5 pounds. The price was $1.91. I bought it just for the supplies. I checked out the web site and decided that it wasn't for me. However, after reading this post maybe I will reconsider and sign up. The Sam's Club sku for this item is 938497.

You use your regular printer which must be able to print envelopes. You have to be on-line to the internet to print postage. You are limited in the choice of shipping lables; must be ones programmed into the software. Unless you want to eat messed up postage or hassle with the venor or USPS, use a spooler that lets you reprint. You can't print postage for outside the US. You can use an account on only one PC and only one boot partition in that PC. If you are using NT/2K/XP, only one user on the PC can use the account.

I use ClickStamp from Pitney Bowes which is similar except only $1.40/month and like it a lot. ClickStamp Demo

This is a great deal. Last time i got in on this, i kept the scale and they didn;t charge me for it, I cancelled at day 28, used up a lot of the postage, and got the compUSA GC. Wonderful deal, I'm in again. Even if I have to stay in for the first billing period: free scale, free $25 postage, and free $25 GC . . .for a measly $16.00?
not too shabby
thanks for the heads up! this is a GREAT deal!

I always wanted one of those scales. I downloaded the software. Very interesting. I'm sure this is the future. Eventually everyone will be printing their own postage.

I signed up for this deal a month ago and haven't received my
GC yet. Does anyone know how long it takes ? I shot off an email
to customer service couple of days ago no response yet.

As for the service, it certainly is not as convenient as to slap
on a stamp on the envelope especially for a standard mail user
(just pay bills). If u do a lot of mailing maybe it is better.

The biggest problem is misprints. Refunds can be got only for
postage misprinted with full bar code. i lost almost $5 out of the
free $25 (incl a priority mail stamp).

Also, u do need labels to print on windowed bill envelopes or use
your own envelopes.

Make sure your CompUSA card is charged. I got it in October, tried to use it in January (this yr) and the guy at the cashier said the card was never charged with the $25. They ended up giving me the $10 item I wanted to buy for $.01 and said they would "investigate" the matter. They never called me back like I expected. I contacted Stamps.com through e-mail and they asked me to call their NON-toll free number. Rather than paying for the phone call, I decided to just toss the card. BTW, I joined stamps.com for just one day so I could get the card.

If your using your own non-windowed, blank envelopes, you can print straight on the envelope. If you're using windowed envelopes or ones that have a pre-printed delivery address, you have to use the labels with the fluorescent border.

I do admit, the scale feels cheap and is hardly worth $50... but hey, it's free with the power plan.

It's a small digital scale, made of plastic. I don't think it's worth the $50 they claim, but it's an decent scale.

The scale is pretty good, for free. It has a 10 pound limit and reads in lbs and tenths of ounces. The read out is on a sloped face, so with a big box on the table it can be difficult to see the display.

Mine went whack once, and stamps.com emailed me instructions on how to re-calibrate the unit. Not too difficult but it is about 9 steps, one of them requiring a 10 lb. weight. I went to the local post office with a gallon of water and a few rolls of quarters and measured out 10 lbs. of it all.

I would guess that a similar scale would retail for about $45.

Comes with an AC adapter and a cserial cable to interface with the stamps.com software.

Since I quit stamps.com ASAP I never hooked up the scale to my PC. Has anyone figured out how to hook the scale up without using the stamps progrm?

I signed up for a similar deal a few months back w/ a CompUSA CD, and it took 3 months for the gift card to arrive. Also be cautious of you're cancellation date. After 29 days, they charge you $15.99 for the FIRST 29 days. Then if you stay a few more days, they start the next billing cycle and charge you another $15.99. So if you cancel late, they may stick you w/ two months of fees.
