When I got mine, the price was listed as $8.99 on sale online ($11.00 off of the regular $19.99 price). But when I got to the store, the actual shelf tag showed the price to be $3.99, after a $16.00 'instant rebate', good until 12/18/2004. They claimed that the shelf tag was in error, and that they were supposed to be $8.99 (which is what the computer was ringing them up as). They took the shelf tag off after I purchased mine.
Edit: Interestingly, checking the links posted earlier in the thread, the sale price online is still listed as $8.99, but they now list the original list price as $24.99, with a $16.00 saving. Now it all makes sense. Someone screwed up, they probably were intended to be priced at $8.99, but somehow, when the shelf tags were being printed, the original price in the database was $19.99 instead of $24.99. (Perhaps the mfg reduced their MSRP during the same time period, and it got entered into the database?) The savings of $16.00 was correct. So those shelf tags printed out at $3.99. Price mistake!
If no-one has already hit up your local store for the $3.99 ones, then check it out. Seeing the corrected pricing on their web site makes me wonder if corporate has already sent out a memo to stores though, to "fix" the shelf tags. Good luck.
Btw, I've been doing some researching, it seems that these ProDisc media are using an azo dye layer. In my mind, they should still be better-quality than the vast majority of CMC-rebadged brands out there, like TDK, Memorex, ValueDisc, K-HyperMedia, HP, etc., although real MCC or T-Y media is still the best. Even for $8.99 this is a decent deal, heading towards 'excellent' if you can find MIJ media.
