$250 Nvidia GPU for Battlefront?

I know Nvidia recommends GTX 970 for Battlefront but I do not have the cash to buy one at the moment. If I could drop 300 on a card I would but the reality is I just can't right now and I'm GPUless. I just completed my first build and have yet to purchase a GPU. Hoping that Black Friday/cyber Monday offer some deals. I am curious what people's thoughts are on NVidia cards to run Battlefront? Maybe those who are currently running it would like to chime in with their systems.
I am not opposed to OC the GPU but don't know if the cooling for my rig can sustain it. My motherboard is able to run SLI but I don't know if I want to buy two older $125 GPUs over a current gen that could be OC.
I'm mostly concerned with steady FPS (45-60) and reducing tearing as much as possible. I know this can easily be done by simply reducing the textures. But I like shiny things, I don't expect ultra but the higher the better.

My Setup is as follows
Intel i7 4790k
MSI z97s sli Krait Edition
Corsair 16bg(8x2) ddr3-2400
Samsung Evo 850 250gb SSD
Thermaltake tr2 600w 80+ Gold
Windows 10 64bit

from Nvidia you are basically looking at the 960 4GB for under $250, but I would think it's best to wait a little and get a 970, specially considering the rest of your specs it would make more sense.

I understand what you are saying with the rest of the rig. But I over zealous on the build so I knew I had longevity for the system. Then didn't budget proportionately for a decent card.

If you're in the US, you should be able to find a deal on a 970 for $250. Check the hot deals forum, or watch Slickdeals daily...

Use Visa Checkout + code to get $25 off. If you have an American Express card, link to newegg deal to it through your American Express account, use that card when you do Visa Checkout + code to get ANOTHER $25 off. $30 MIR on top of that, sell free game that comes with card for ~$20, and you're looking at $190 when it's all said and done. If you don't have an AX card, then you're looking at $215. Still a great deal.

Had already cued it up. Thank you though. And good idea about the Game sale. I don't play either so I'll see if a friend wants it. Also it caught my eye because the color also matches the rest of the build. A happy Coincidence.

Thank you guys again!

After rebates whole build will have cost me under $800

Not bad for an i7 build... but I agree with the others, don't cheap out on the GPU. When I built my first 2500K rig, I waited 5 months before I was able to get my first GPU (a GTX560Ti 448) Yes, playing ModernWarfare on the iGPU wasn't a 'positive gaming experience', but it got me in the door and made that new GPU seem that much better.

The only place I could see you getting a GTX960 now, as a stop gap, would be to eventually upgrade to a GTX980 (et al) when funds became available. You could always sell the 960 and recoup some of your money, but I don't think it would be worth it going 960>970.

Is there a trick I'm missing here? The Visa checkout code doesn't work due to the card you linked coming with the free game code...

Newegg just had a deal on ebay for a zotac gtx 970 with a free game bundle, believe it was rainbow seige or assassins creed, for 250 shipped. My buddy picked it up, it was a steal. You should keep your eyes open today for something around the same price. A 970 for 250 is a sick deal.

I agree with everyone here that you'd want a 970, as a 960 at decent settings wouldn't run Battlefront very well. But you'd really have to find a really good deal on one that's used.

I've been in the same boat about video cards. I've yet to even start buying any of my upgrades, but I've been stuck at which gpu to get. The main game I'm wanting to play though is planetside 2, which is heavily cpu bound. I was playing with the 560ti 448 and q9540, but my gpu died :-/

Might be too late now, but if you haven't got a card yet you could always look into the evga step up program. Buy a lower end card now, and upgrade in a couple months when you have some extra cash saved up.
