Im running AXP 2500+ oc'd to 3200+. Just ordered 6600GT. Is the cpu going to cause a bottleneck with the card when running 1280x1024 4xaa, 8xaf in CS source?

If your playing cs source with that level of gfx you are not going to have a pleasurable experience. I own a 9800 pro and a 3200+ a64 and experience lots of slowdowns during online play. With First Person Shooters, maintaining 100 fps is vital and my computer cannot do it. Lots of smoke or gfx tends to make it not happen. Ive tried tweaking gfx but I think its down to dx8 mode for me. Personally your cpu will be a bottleneck but ure gfx card cant handle those settings imho.

At 1280x1024 4xAA 8xAF, graphics card will be the bottleneck even with AXP 3200+ & 6800GT.

I agree with the others that you might be expecting too much. I run CSS at 1280*960, 2X/AA, 8XAF with a 2.1 GHz Clawhammer & 6800 GT @ 375/1100, and that's what I consider the limit for real smoothness. I have to admit, though, that it is liquid smooth, which I much prefer over the best graphics with slight stutters.

Rofl, games are perfectly playable with 30 fps as long as it's relatively constant. You should turn on vsync if it's that big a deal.

My graphics card (see sig) is not the bottleneck at 1280x1024/4xAA/8xAF. I get the exact same fps as at 1024x768 with no AA/AF.

maybe thats playable for you, but i cant play 1st person shooters at 30fps.

anyways i had a

3500 winchester
1gb ocz pc3500
6800 gt.

in CS:S i play at 1280x960 2xaa 8xaf and i used to get drops down to 35fps.

now i got the same CPU, RAM, but now i got a x800xt.

i play cs:S 1280x960 4xAA 16xAF, and i NEVER drop below 50FPS.
when i had my GT i thought it was a cpu bottleneck, but i still have the SAME CPU, DIFFERENT vid card, run at HIGHER SETTINGS, and get BETTER FPS....so does that mean i WASNT bottlenecked?

That's funny, I run a 9800XT and a 3200+ and have had no problems with slowdown or lag running CS: Source with the recommended performance options set up. My FPS usually hovers around 40-60, too.

the human eye doesnt notice above 60 fps or sommmin so i would say above 60 is good but why play at liek 1024x768 and get 180 fps when you can play at 1280x1024 and get like 120 which is still much more than what you'll notice?
