I have this same NAS. It works good enough, and the speed is quick enough to serve it's purpose. I only use it for file storage.

The printserver is hooked up to my printer, but my results with it are so-so. But the problems could be my printer. The problem I have is that when I print it doesn't "wake up" my printer. So if I want to print from my laptop wirelessly, I need to come down and manually turn on my printer first. When the printer was plugged directly in to my PC it would wake automatically when a print job was sent. Even after manually turning it on, I also sometimes have to remove/re-add the print queue for the jobs to get to my printer.

Again, it could be my printer (Canon i850) and not the print server itself, so take that with a grain of salt.

My only other complaint is that I wish it had foam/rubber feet. Having it just sitting on the small shelf that is part of my desk hutch, the thing vibrates enought to cause a fairly irritating noise. I recently put it on top of a foam mouse pad to take care of this. But rubber feet would've been much easier.

you can buy rubber feet for next to nothing, maybe a dollar store or something.

I got this from Buy.com for $84.00 shipped (before Christmas) using the 20 off 50 GCO deal. It woks fine for storing pictures and backing up data. I would not expect extremely fast performance but it works fine for certain applications. The print server does not work for multi-function machines as it is not a bi-directional communication. Works fine for my laser printer, allowing my family to use the printer with my machine off. It gets warm, but not as warm as my "toaster" (Netgear SC-101). You might want to plug it into the router and not a switch.... I think some have had trouble connecting to the network through a switch. Overall, I like to product, especially for the price. I wish the 500GB was a little cheaper. You can also add an additional USB2.0 External HDD onto this and share it for additional storage.

It is ext3 from my research, so no. Limit is something like 2^60th. 2 GB is 2^31 IIRC.

Looks like a nice deal, but I just grabbed an external drive. I wish my 250 mybook came with a print server. Anyone know of a good cheap wired print server.

Installation went w/o a hitch for the mostpart. It came with firmware 1.02. I immediately updated it to 1.09 because that firmware fixed some power management issues. However, it disables some RAID functionality so beware of that if you want that feature. I have it all set up and my Samsung laser MFP prints just fine.

One issue I am having is that I can't login to the simpleshare just by typing in it's name (i.e. \\simpleshare). WinXP can't find it. I have to use it's IP address. Also, I can't find the Simpleshare if I just try to browse the network. To map a drive, I have to use the IP address of the Simpleshare. Any ideas? My Windows firewall is shut off as we as the router's firewall (for testing purposes).

Ahhhh I had to enable Netbios over TCP/IP in my PCs networking settings so I can browse the network!! Problem solved.

You can skip the rubber feet if you have a glue gun. A couple drops on each corner should do nicely.

I ordered one of these - should help with backup of both my wife's laptop and my laptop.

Just wish I had done it BEFORE my hard drive crashed a couple of weeks ago...

Don't forget to get the 1.07 or 1.09 firmware. If you need RAID and encryption, don't get 1.09.

Can anyone recommend a NAS that does bi-directional support so I can hook up my Epson CX3810 Printer/Scanner over the network?
