I can not speak for anyone else on here and maybe I am just lucky but I bought a stick (256 MB) when it was at $81 (plus shipping) and I gave it a shot in my Abit-KT7 RAID motherboard not expecting it to work. To my great surprise it does work fine. Not only does it work fine, it works better than fine! I have messed around a lot now with this ram and have it working (stable) at CAS2 and all the BIOS settings for RAM set to fastest! On top of that it is running fine with my Duron 750 processor that is overclocked to 1 GHz. Can't complain too much about this "cheap" ram myself.

I bought one similar 256MB PC-133 and a VIA chipset P-III MB motherboard combo 7-8 month ago (total was ~$200), and here is what I found out about this ram.

1) Works fine with VIA133 chipset boards, including
Jetway 964L (p3 board, bundled with the ram),
MSI K7T Pro,
and Asus A7V (both are athlon/duron board)

2) Does not work well on BX board, in my case it only reported 128M on Abit BP-6

3) Not sure about CAS-2, not seems stable on A7V with aggressive settings(A7V/T-Bird/Nvidia combo has its own issuess, so I can not tell at this point), CAS-3 is very stable.

4) Quadrand was the maker/vendor.

Thanks for the great info Wei2Cool

Now if we can figure out that we'll really need more than the "accepted" range of 128 to 256 MB of ram for Win 2k. I currently have 196 and even with such a great deal, I ask myself if I need it. Too many times we're buying this and that, without even thinking if we'll need/use it.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Can anyone confirm that performance with W2k is higher with more than our "range"?

Cheers

I bought this ram when it was $81 as well... it runs fine in my Abit KT7 w/ duron600@1050. I didn't really think it had a chance at CAS2... but I'm gonna try it right now and I'll report back

edit: Wow, it runs fine at CAS2 (passed my inital 10 minute sandra test). My expierence with upgrade planet was fine, I received my RAM in about 5 days...

This place is sucks.
I ordered 128mb pc-133 from them few months ago.
I couldn't believe it took them 3 weeks to make it ship and they charged my cc on the day I ordered.
Also, their description showed that the ram will do cas 2 at 133 but mine can't even do cas2 at 100. :|
Do not buy from them.

Hey, if this ram is working for your newer mobo systems (133MHz for T-Bird/Duron), then it would surely work in my Gigabyte 71X... wouldn't it? It is the PC100 version, but DAMNNNNNNNNNNN:Q, I mean, $80 bucks for this!

Decided to read once in my life, and discovered the GA71XE is supported! However, I have the very first version, which doesn't have the bypass I believe. But anyhow, I think it may work. Anyone w/ experience?

just a reminder that it's PC133 guys

I'll let you know when I get it.

If you're compatiable, this is very, very tempting to say the least!

I JUST ordered RAM from Crucial for my Microstar K7 Pro board (AMD 750 based).

I would've ordered this memory but I'm scared. I just upgraded from a Biostar motherboard (also AMD 750 based) and had 256 MB of RAM in there, but on my new Microstar one chip didn't work at all, and the other came up only as 32MB! Surprising to say the least, since the Biostar I had was very picky about RAM as well.

Any1 ever heard of the problem I'm having? Is it because it's somewhat cheap RAM? I got it from Access Micro a while back.

Is there a utility that will look at your RAM and see what the specs of it are, like a WCPUID for memory? (i.e. CAS 2/3, PC100/133, etc.)

This stuff sounds great.
Before getting it, is it possible to run my current Kingston PC100 (256meg) in a new Abit or MSI board w/ T-bird? I don't have the MB or CPU picked out yet- am in the process of selecting the parts and didn't know if it is possible to run PC100 ram in a 133 system? If possible, how much of a drawback would that be compared to running 133 memory? Am I better off just getting new 133 memory (such as this) for a new board?
Anyone with any experience on this...?

Yes, I'm pretty sure it is possible to use your PC100 on those boards... however, you are correct, there will be a draw back. Dunno how much, but I would suggest getting a new stick of 133. And make SURE you don't mix ram. Like, when you get your new board, with PC133 capabilities, don't have a stick of PC100, and a stick of PC133 in there. It'll totally screw everything up I'm afraid.

I have one of these sticks running on a MSI K7T Pro2 with a Duron 650. It has not crashed once. I love it!

I left the memory timings set to SPD and it's running at 133MHz. I haven't tried "tweaking" it.

Oh, and the service I got from this company was very good. Quick shipping and good communication. The package was not too good however. It was shipping in a bubble pack, like a bubble wrap lined envelope. I suppose that's OK for an occasional toss around the warehouse, but a malicious person could easily snap the stick in two if they wanted to.

Although, after dealing with this company, I'm sure they would replace the RAM should anything happen to it.

I have mixed PC100 and PC133 and it works fine. Of course my bus runs at 100Mhz so speed is not an issue.

Ben, how long after you got the second of three E-mails did you get your RAM? I got my CC verification confirmation, but I have yet to receive a tracking number.

I bought some of this RAM and got it about a week and a half later. It's decent. It does run at CAS 2 for me, but only at PC-100. I can't get it to run at PC-133 and CAS 2. Maybe some more bios tweaks, but I doubt it. It's still a good deal at any rate.

I've been thinking about buying this RAM. It's down to $71.
However, check out the interesting little blurb in the product description.

Product Description
Please visit Syncmax's website at http://www.syncmax.com/PDF/TN001025_256_32Mx4_compatible.pdf for compatable chipsets and motherboards. (The memory modules shipped are not necessarily Syncmax brand.)

Gee, they refer you to the Syncmax website for mobo compatibility but then tell you that you may not get Syncmax RAM.
