Folks, can you please tell me what your memory chips look like? I heard some people saying something about Syncmax memory, but the memory I received says SPEEDY on it. I would like to compare to see if we have the same memory, because, as you know, mine is not working....

It's my pleasure Vroomfondel

Glad I can give back to the community

BigDave, my memory says Syncmax on it, not speedy. Try looking up the numbers on it and then call Upgradeplanet and ask for an explanation.

Thank you for the help! I just wrote an email to Upgrade Planet, telling them the difference... Hopefully they'll get it worked out.

they have a disclaimer on the site "(The memory modules shipped are not necessarily Syncmax brand.)"
For what its worth mine does have syncmax on it and it is not working either. Keeps crashing in windows. thats at 110mhz cas3 even. I sent an email to them about 3 days ago and have not gotten a response yet. Hopefully I will get an exchange out of them. May take awhile though

Well, regardless of the name brand, it said the KT133 chipset was compatible. So I am entitled to have a chip that works. That's what was advertised, and that's what I paid for.

What the hey, feedback here is that they are slow to ship but these should work. I have a Asus P3V4X with Intel P3-700E (VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset) that is maxed out at 512MB with 4*128MB... I'll just trade out two of those and use them in systems that won't take these modules.

The system says LIMIT Five now!

I ordered 2 at $70, shipping for UPS ground came to $10.34, so total was $150.34 for 512MB.

Current product description: 168 Pin 256MB PC133 32Mx4 *Limit Five* For VIA KT-133, VIA KX-133, AMD 751 Iron Gate, VIA Apollo 133A Pro Chipsets ONLY

Funny that Intel motherboards won't take this config of RAM, I found a page that shows Intel sells 32Mx4 SDRAM DIMMs

From my research... this isn't crap RAM, it is just 32Mx4 configuration which many boards don't support yet. Future motherboards will support this. It is just cheap-priced PC133 CAS3 stuff...

Looks like ServerWorks chipset motherboards from Asus Also support 256MB (32Mx4) RAM if you study this page.

I also have an Asus P3V4X mobo and this ram has worked flawlessly

I'm very happy with this purchase.

I placed my order last night and got confirmation... then this morning (Sunday) I got a second letter saying they were processing it today and would send it to shipping and charge my credit card shortly.

Wow, they process orders on Sunday! I wonder if the high activity recently has had them improve some of their turn around time.

I have ordered an ABIT KT7A with an AMD Duron 800 MHz, which I am willing to overclock at least at 1Ghz. I now own a 128MB PC100 stick, I guess it can't do the trick at all, can it ?

Would this stick (still at 70$?) let me achieve my desire ?

I guess this question has already been asked once or twice, but could somebody recall the difference between CAS2 and CAS3 ?

Zeusy: You are not going to hit 1ghz with PC100. With a good "brand name" stick of PC133, you would probably reach your goal. But in OC'ing nothing is guaranteed, it relies alot on luck.

I emailed them twice (over 2 weeks ago) about the whole "not necessarily Syncmax module" thing, and have yet to receive a reply. I don't understand how/why they would refer you to the syncamx module to find out the specs and mobo compatibilities if this was not a syncmax module. I have yet to jump on this deal, I know its only $70-3 but I don't know if it will end up being bunk. I might just go for a sure thing and get the 256 crucial ram, as I have that exact stick running right now.

decision, decision.

Zeusy where'd you order that KT7A-RAID? Was it Ajump.com? I was going to order my Asus and Duron only a few days ago when I started seeing the reviews popup. Now I'm raring to order with the need in mind to get them and play before the 14 day money back on this RAM runs out!!

Grrr Ajump is giving me problems *sigh*

>Zeusy: You are not going to hit 1ghz with PC100.

Thanks for the confirmation. I've already put in the local "for sale" forums.
I guess it's too much a game of luck to overclock your system with nobrand/cheap RAM, so I'm looking up for a good one. What are the best brands out there ? I've heard of Crucial, Kingstone ? Mushkin was sometimes reported to have problems being overclocked. I don't know about the others. I can't really jump on this deal, because I'm living in the reunion Island and the shipping costs (plus extra fees when it arrives here) don't make it really worth.

>Zeusy where'd you order that KT7A-RAID?

I actually ordered a KT7A (non-RAID) at www.materiel.net, french site. It was at 1 283,77 FF =
187$ shipped. But I don't think it's really worth for you americans either (anyway they don't ship to USA yet).

By the way, I also read about PC150. Will I necessarily get better overclocking results with any PC150 than with standard PC133 (and good one) ?
What about the cas thing ?
I can see a Kingmax - 128 MB SDRAM PC150 with these details :
CAS Latency : 3
RAS to CAS Delay : 3
Precharge Delay : 2
Cycle : 6,6 ns
Clock Access Time : 4,5 ns
.. at about 145$ (!) looking at the CAS, it is not even cas2. Is it normal ?
For about the same price I can have a 256MB PC133 with no brand, and no specifications.
On one side you have performance and security, on the other, the quantity.

What's the best deal (if I had to choose between those, things that is not sure for now) ?

Can anyone make a guess on whether or not these will work in a new KT133a board? I'm waiting to ditch my current Intel rig and buy a T-Bird for one of these to take advantage of the memory bandwidth boost.

Cheers!

Either the Kingston or Crucial RAM will do you just fine.

The difference between CAS2 and CAS3 is the time you have to wait for the data to appear on the pins of the RAM. Obviously CAS2 you have to wait 2 clcok cycles and CAS3 is 3 cycles. CAS2 RAM will provide more speed and stability for overclocking, but you won't really see much of a performance increase between the two, except in memory intensive programs.

and for around $145 you can get alot more than a 128mb stick of PC150 RAM. You can get a 256mb PC133 stick of Crucial RAM for that much. Free fedex second day air (US Residents only I believe).

I ordered 256MB on 1-3-01 and received it today (1-15-01). This stuff works great. I have 2 128MB sticks of generic memory and now this 256MB stick in an Asus CUV4X. All three sticks are stable at cas 2 (124MHz fsb). Thanks for the deal!

Thanks for the answer man.
The problem is, Crucial memory isn't really worth either because of the shipping charges (30$).
I have found this : http://ocz.safeshopper.com/11/cat11.htm?592,
where you can find "OCZ Performance Series 'Plus' PC150 128MB", "tested to 150 MHz at CAS 2/3/2 mounted on a 6 layer PCB.", which is "only" 79$ (shipped) versus 108$ shipped 128MB PC133 CAS2 Crucial.
Yet OCZ performance is pretty less know than Crucial is, but people who gave it a chance seemed to be satisfied (at least, they only list the satisfaction reports on the web site ).
I don't really know what to do, but I know my wallet is not very heavy.

BY THE WAY : is there any coupon search engine out there ? I'm looking for one for this OCZ site.

>Can anyone make a guess on whether or not these will work in a new KT133a board?

I would rather like someone to confirm me that he's had them working on his KT133A board! Come on, hot dealers, one of you must be a KT7A owner ... tell us. Thanks a lot.

Someone else mentioned in this thread that the chips they received appeared to have been in a system already. Couldnt find that post but I wanted to know from that person if the memory worked. I also received memory that looks like it was in a system already (either I got used memory or they test the pieces in a system) but havent been home yet to try it out. Just curious whatever happened for that other person.

To the person who stated you wouldn't hit 1ghz with PC100 sdram, how did you come to that conclusion? When overclocking the duron processor you're not bumping up the FSB (which as at 100mhz), you're adjusting the multiplier. Just this past weekend I overclocked a duron 700 to 1000mhz with 128mb PC100 Kingston Valueram (Infineon chips). I was able to run the ram asynchronously at 133mhz at cas2! So the answer is, PC100 ram will work FINE with your setup Zeusy, only thing is you might not be able to adjust the ram speed in the BIOS to have it run at 133mhz, but that will not affect your overclocking experiments unless the 128mb ram you bought is simply incompatible with Via KT133 chipset (you'd have had to buy really cheap stuff for that to be the case). Basically, if the memory works in your motherboard at default speed, it'll work at 1000mhz as long as you're not adjusting the Front Side Bus speed.

Bagger is correct.

I'm currently o/c my p3 650 with an fsb of 130, and a ratio of 1:1 with 2 sticks of PC100 RAM

The third is the one I purchased from this deal.
