I just bought one stick, Samsung K4H560838C-TCA0, and I too am having questions about if this stick is trully Pc2100. because according to the Samsung web page, this chip is DDR200 running @ 100MHz @10ns. thus, how can a stick of memory, made up of 100MHz chips, be PC2100 (which runs at 133MHz) ???

has anyone been about to contact Samsung about this? maybe they can confirm that this chip could not be used to create a PC2100 stick of memory. I plan to contact them tomorrow, through one of their Reps in NY.. but I doubt they will know the answer.

I once purchased a Elixer ddr for my abit Kr7a from frys. IT was the cheapest 'generic' ran they had.

Unfortunately my system kept hanging up on XP every 2 minutes or so.

Swapped it out for a Micron ddr and the problem went away.

since the a0 chips are 200mhz cas2 , and the b0 are 266 cas2.5 , these are most likely the same chips just marked differently.

most cas2 ram will run a higher speed grade if the cas latency is lowered, so pny probably was just told it was ok to use them. they do test them, all pny has to do is guarantee it works at the intended speed which is pc2100 cas2.5

I purchased a PNY GF3 from Best Buy with a $40 Mail-In rebate and got the money a month later. They probably just didn't like you

Good news. I just got my parts for my new p4 system in the mail. This enables me to test the samsung ram. So far it works 110% at ddr266 at cas 2.5 , but i was able to get it up to ddr332 at cas2.5 as well (2.7V). So I guess this ram isnt useless after all .

Here are my sandra and wincpu shots to prove it.

DDR332

Later tomorrow I will see if its stable at this speed and how much higher it can go .

hmm, i purhcased this ram for a duron based system i am building. the duron itself only uses ddr200 ram, so i should be fine then running this @ cas 2. if thats the case then i don't mind that i did not get the b0, and got the a0 instead.

So I just went and bought a 256MB DDR from BestBuy today.

It's a Samsung K4H560838C-TCA0, a 100Mhz/200Mhz DDR (Default).

Just test it out with the following setup
- Duron 600Mhz (6x100Mhz)
- IWILL XP333 (Got it refurbished from NewEgg $42.50 deal )
- 256MB DDR Samsung K4H560838C-TCA0
- 64MB Geforce2 Ultra (Hercules Ultra)
- TurboLink ATX-320 (CWT-320ATX)

The best result i could get to POST is(I didn't run the "memtest" nor did i boot to Window because i don't have my harddrive available and lazy ) :

6 x 189Mhz = 1134Mhz | 189/378Mhz DDR @CL2
6.5 x 175Mhz = 1138Mhz | 175/350Mhz DDR @CL2

This is what i got so far, temperature around 48C idle.
I will post more when i get more times to play with it tomorrow.

Issue: I just purchased your memory from Bestbuy. they had your Optima Memory Upgrade kit 256mb DDR (D256M6421OPT, DIMM, DDR, 2100). I got it home and checked the chips on the DIMM, they are Samsung, K4H560838C-TCA0. according to the Samsung web site, these chips are not PC2100 capable. the A0 indicated they are 100MHz w/CL=2 (DDR200). they have to be 133MHz @ CL=2.5 or CL=2 to be PC2100. Are you aware of this as a problem? I thought I was buying PC2100 memory, but the chips used to create this DIMM are rated by the manfacture to run at no more then 100MHz. Please advise me, if I really need PC2100 memory, for my AMD system, and it needs to run at 133MHz, then should I return this memory DIMM? or, have you done something to this chipset that allows it to run @ 133MHZ, and then at what CL?

here is PNY's response:
You are reading the specs to one IC - the module is a PC2100 that is 266MHz

Any tech guys out there can confirm that you can make a PC2100 DIMM out of eight 100MHz chips?
I have not installed the memory yet.. will do that tomorrow.. but what can we use to determine what the DIMM is?
thanks.

why couldnt you make 256mb dimms out of 8 chips. it s just a different arrangement.

you can buy 512mb dimms right (double sided) its just half of one of those since those are 2 bank.

the 256mb dimm is 256Mb x 8. chips. they are newer higher density than the old dimms that use 128x8 chips and 16 of them for 2 banks.

Marin City (N. of SF) just (4:15pm Thur7.18.02) had five 256MB Infineon chips left (after I took 2). I checked and they are all Infineon HYB25D256800AT-7. Hope this helps someone.

Got Samsung 256 Mbit chip K4H560838C-TCA0.

Working in pair with my Crucial at comfortable 145x2 = 290 Mhz. It can go higher, posting on 148x2 but my setup doesn't allow any better and that has nothing to do with memory. I could test it on KT333 board I have but I was just too lazy to open that case since it is working fine with faster memory anyway. I can recommend this particular chip to anybody in need of PC 2100. Whether it can go 333 Mhz I cannot say but I believe it can with the proper setup.

They are both good, they are both tested by some people to run 170x2=340 Mhz, if you can believe to overclockers. I would always take Samsung first if available.

Thanks, I thought Infineon chips were better!

Means that chip is capable/tested of CL2 at 266 Mhz.
My Samsung has Samsung PCB with part number M381L1713CTL, meaning true Samsung on Samsung.
I believe it is capable of PC 2700 though it is only tested as TCA0 meaning as CL2 at 100x2=200 Mhz.

With Samsung this doesn't matter much, these are impressive chips. Their PC 2700 are capable of 400 Mhz, so don't worry about numbers.

Here is more about practice:

I am running this chip at 2-2-2 settings which is the most aggressive at 145x2=290 Mhz without a hitch. My setup is not allowing anything over 147 to enter the Windows XP. Memory is not the issue.

The chip is identified as CL2 up to 200 Mhz and CL2.5 up to 266 Mhz, according to Sandra.

That is not the max by any means, this is apparent from what I tried. I bet this is capable of 333 Mhz at CL2.5 with perhaps a little increase of voltage, say 2.8.

Samsung tests of these chips are very conservative.

Bought two sketchy sticks; one failed to exhibit minimum functionality, so they didn't stay in long. FWIW, YMMV, etc.

ymmv is certainly the watchword on ram. but mileage is agreed to be better on average with the name brands: Infineon, Micron, Samsung.
