So I still wonder if we can assume that the USB device luv2liv is using is not correctly recognizing both parts, or if there is an actual problem with his drive?

update!
using CrystalDiskInfo in the Acer laptop that is working, i see two C drive each having 64gb. win8 sees only 1 drive with total capacity of around 128gb.

so i can only assume the dead acer laptop ssd drive i pulled out is same. on the label, i see 256gb but with the usb adapter, win8 only show 128gb. i wonder which usb adapter will let me see all 256gb. if anyone has a suggestion, pls advise. ty!

I have exactly the same problem, however, my problem extends to direct mSATA controller in Dell M4700 laptop. Kingston smsr150s3 128GB mSATA shows as 64GB when directly connected to the laptop's port, in a USB adapter too. Kingston SSD app shows it as a 128GB model but then lists 64GB and advises it is healthy and that there is no new firmware for it.
Complete mystery. Does not make sense unless these were made specifically for one type of laptop/PC.

When I clone a drive from small to big it reduces the size of the drive. There is free software that can open up your drive and format it to it's correct capacity. If you go into the windows disk partition software try to expand the volume.

I've got an answer directly from Kingston. These are custom made drives for Acer S7 laptops and are setup as two half drives in Raid 0. Only a system with SATA multiplier port support can read both halves, most don't have the support so they only see half size. I've been had by an ebay seller this time, there was no mention about this being a custom ssd.

Weird. Kinda cool, but weird.
