I got samsung chips, are the samsung chips better then infineon? or no? if anyone knows that is.

If anyone has had experience with these chips, I also want to know which chips are better... Samsung or Infineon. I got both of these sticks today.

There's nothing on the rebate that indicates what the price you paid must be to get the rebate. Here's a link to the rebate form on the Internet.
I'm sort of pissed now that this CSR wanted to take the "OD Law" into his own hands and not give me the rebate form. He probably figured that since my final price was lower than what the rebate was for, it had to be invalid, correct? We'll let Express Group decide whether we get the rebate and it's like you said, there is nothing on the rebate that indicates what price someone pays for the item. I'll fight OD on this too because I'm not breaking any rules here.

I did call the store back and ask a CSR what they would do with a rebate form that they held back and she said that they'd throw it out. I don't mind that at all because I like the online forms better anyway. They are easier to photocopy (for my records) with my fax machine/copier. I just didn't want anyone submitting this form with my transaction info into Express Group, so they could invalidate any rebate submissions that I'd have with my sale receipt. I know.. I'm just being paranoid here, but after some of the hoops that these rebate companies make you jump through, I don't trust the bast*ards.

Hey, they MIGHT refuse the rebate -- but I'll take my chances with the national center and not left some local manager set national rebate policy for them. If they do deny it, they'll get a scorching phone call at OD corporate from me -- because if they deny the rebate, then I paid MORE than I would have paid just buying it for $100 and getting the $65 back. They'll owe me $13.00.

But you know what? The long and short of it is that even if they DO deny it and I don't get any satisfaction, I'm still pretty dadgum happy to get two sticks of name brand PC2100 DDR RAM with Samsung chips for $48.00 each.

This, the cheap Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM drive ($14.00 after MIRs), and the motherboard/CPU combo I'm going to buy will make the new system I'm building a screamer.

That's not hot for me after paying around $30 a stick for Crucial last fall with no rebates. It's also not hot considering that I can have another stick of Crucial this week at BB for $3x.xx AR. If they don't honor the $65 rebate, they are going to have to compensate me in some other way.

You know.. I just love some of the managers and CSR's interpretations of OD's policy. Some won't give you the rebate form because they think it has to be invalid if the rebate is more than the register receipt and others won't PM to their own freaking web site. BTW.. If you did get a chance to print off the web page at the $64.99, it says absolutely nothing about being a "special" price. All it says is list and "our price".

Scored one! 44.99 before 65.00 rebate! Had two left, got one. I saw another person looking at the exact memory! Got Elixir chips but I not planning to overclock these chips as I have some Samsung DDR already.

So far I've seen Samsung, Infineon and Elixir chips for this PNY memory. Are there any others? Which is the best? Which is the worst?

You know with everyone wanting the Samsung chips for Oc'ing on their PNY 256Mb PC2100 DDR, why couldn't a person buy it on sale at CC or OD. Then go buy the same DDR that has the Samsung chips. Then take the non-Samsung DDR back to the store where they got the DDR with Samsung. It's still the PNY 256Mb PC2100 DDR...

Really? The best price I could find for PC2100 DDR 256MB is $54.00 plus shipping -- so $48 was a deal to me.

Link for Samsung
Link for Infineon

After looking at those links, it seems my Infineon stick is better compared to my Samsung stick. My infineon (6800AT-7) has 133MHz/143MHz @ CL2/CL2.5 while my samsung (TCB0) has 100MHz/133MHz @ CL2/CL2.5

Basically my infineon is DDR266A while my samsung is DDR266B.
I haven't looked at any elixer stuff but i've heard its the worst of the 3.

Correct me if any of this info is wrong...

But are the UPC's all the same?

I just called my local OD and they have one left, it was priced at $100. Do you think they will match price with their website for $65?

I would say that they probably will if you take a copy of the price printed off the web site. Did you print off a copy? Otherwise, they are just taking your word for it. If you have a copy and you end up dealing with the average OD CSR, you shouldn't have any problems. Some CSR's are being Aholes though unfortunately.
But are the UPC's all the same?
The packages of RAM should be identicle. The only thing that will be different is the sku number because that's a store to store thing. I did this with a Cendyne cd burner one time. I don't have a Staples within 100 miles of me, so I order online whenever I do a Staples deal and just hope for the best. One time I got a Aopen burner and wanted a Liteon, so I found a local Office Max that carried the Cendyne and had a Liteon in stock. I went in and did an even exchange, no questions asked.

I'd say if you want RAM with Infineon or Samsung chips, try and buy it from another store and return the RAM with the chips that you don't want. To the stores, it's all the same. As long as the package is unopened, they don't care.

Really? The best price I could find for PC2100 DDR 256MB is $54.00 plus shipping -- so $48 was a deal to me.
Let me rephrase what I said earlier.. It's hard paying $48 for a stick of RAM that cost me $30 or less just last fall. I don't really need the RAM right now, but when you get $17 back after rebates, that's tough to pass up. If I really needed RAM right now and was planning on spending $40 on it, I'd do the BB Crucial deal for around $40 after MIR and tax. I've done a couple of BB Crucial rebates and they are a sure thing in my book. This $17 after rebate isn't a sure thing.

All I was saying before is that I'm not going to be very happy if I end up spending $48 for a stick of DDR RAM when I was after getting $17 or at least breaking even after the rebate.

Basically what it boils down to is that if you really need RAM now and you're faced with spending $50 or so to get it, it's a pretty warm deal if you end up getting it for $48. If you don't need the RAM, not getting the rebate and paying $48 in the end is not so hot.

SUPER HOT UPDATE!!! Friday & Saturday ONLY additional 10% off everything in store!
This is a mute point now. Could someone tell me how they knew about the 10% off everything in the store on Friday and Saturday? I didn't see anything in the store indicating this. I didn't see any flyers. I'm wondering if it was a regional thing or something.

Sal:

Thanks for the clarification. I'm building a new system, so I need the DDR RAM now, or at least in the very near future. Basically I'm making the best deal I can on each component and putting it all together. I'll be pleased as punch if I end up making $17.00 profit on each stick -- that's my goal. But even if the $65 rebates get rejected (which I don't think will happen anyway) I can live with the $48 net price.

But I see where you're coming from. $48 per stick is $48 too much when you don't need it at all. Since I need it, well...

Same situation for me here. I have a list of parts that I'm getting in the near future along with expected price ranges. Would be nice to move the RAM item from an additional cost to a subtraction from the final total. Gonna try this later on today and see if I can get it. Thanks for the deal guys.

The %10 off everything must have been regional then. Woulda thought it'd be national becuz of labor day. All the OD's in N-W WA (Everett, Lynnwood, Seattle) had flyers on the walls and shelves. I almost bought a scanner earlier today also. Still a good deal w/ out it and it'd still be free if you only use the pricematch and no coupon.

Well went to OD today printed this page and asked to match it. The great thing about that page is it says 3 day delivery till you add it to your cart . I talked to the Assistant manager , I could tell she wanted to find someone to ask if it was ok but everyone was busy so she just rang it up. Then I gave the coupon with no trouble. When it rang up it printed a rebate for 25$ which is the difference in price between online and BM she figured that out and said oh I see why its cheaper online and then said well since you already got the discount Ill just take this and she ripped it up and put it in the trash. I felt like saying thats ok I have the 65$ one at home LOL!

Anyway that all worked out great and I got Samsung ram w00t! Alot of people have had good luck with this tcb0 stuff so Im happy.. From what i hear its just as good if not better sometimes than the infineon even though the specs say different.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT DEAL! 44.99 out the door $65 rebate = W00t I make 20$$$$$$$!

On a side note today was a good day for deals I got a ti83+ for 50$ no rebates haha

Will update on how the ram Oc's

UPDATE: I am running the ram at 150fsb as I type this havent adjusted the timing settings yet thats next ..
EDIT: Ram running at 155fsb right now havent touched timing gonna see if It will do cas2 now. My athlonxp isnt unlocked and I dont have that good of cooling so I dont know if I will be able to test this ram that well because my processor is about as hot as I want it to go right now...

EDIT2: The motherboard Im testing this ram on sucks for ocing.. its my friends so sorry.. The onboard ide controller doesnt like anything past 39mhz given to pci or anything it Starts corrupting the hard drive.. this mobo (kr7a) is actually good for ocing but has only 1/4 ratio on it which kinda bites arse... this ram seems really good so far I have it running 156 cas2 (not 2.5) which is as high as I can go without he problem with hard drive.. soo when I get mine I can test more... 156/4=39 even if I do 157 it corrupts lolz.. I tested this to make sure it wasnt anything else by making it 118fsb/3 = 39.33 and it wouldnt boot..

Anyway when I get a better mobo (probably a 333 one so I can stay in spec !!!! ) I can test further.. b ut im very impressed with this ram!! Especially for getting paid to take it!

ROSSMAN: I got my ram at the OD on sunnyside if you know where that one is.. they had one left today may wanna call them up..

Went to the Gateway OD in Portland, Oregon tonight, I came armed with 2 print outs of the $20 off $50 coupon and 2 of the website showing the $64.99 price.

It took a good five minutes to find an OD clerk who wasn't busy and available to help a customer. Some guy walked over to the case where they hold the memory/HD/CD-RWs and almost all the cheap RAM was sold out. They checked all the OD's on the east side of Portland and they're all out

I may try Tigard/Beaverton area tomorrow or even Vancouver, WA.

At the first store they found some of the 256M DDR for me at another store. Nice.

At the second store, the price marked for this RAM was 64.99 with the internet SKU, right on the sign in front of it. That was neat, but odd I thought. There was a sign right next to this one, and nothing behind it, with the identical description, but a different SKU, marked 99.99. (I wonder what that is all about?) The RAM rang up at 99.99 but I had no trouble getting the 65 price. I also had my internet price printout with me, but the person was not interested. No problem with the 20 off 50 coupon. The register printed out the 65 rebate auto-magically. It has a rebate receipt right on the top of same form printout, with a $65 price. Interesting. But the form says you need at least a copy of the _original_ receipt, so I guess I'll send it too to cover myself. (Kingston/OM just denied me on a technicality.)

Samsung chips.

Somehow I doubt I'm going to get the $65 rebate. If it's too good to be true...

damn! $99 tag here and the OD manager won't honor their online price. He simply told me online and B&M are two different companies, and they don't PM any web price. Anyway he agreed the 20 off 50 coupon. And when I checked out, the $65 rebate printed out automatically. So I end up with $40 for 512M samsung CB0, not too shabby thanks for the deal!

novrain:

You got screwed. That's BULL about not PM'ing the Web price. First, there's this:

"If you find a lower price on an identical product advertised for less within 14 days after your Office Depot purchase at any other office products supplier or even in any of our other channels of distribution (prices in any one of our channels may vary, higher or lower from time to time) please call us at 1-888-GO-DEPOT and we will instantly match the price. (We reserve the right to limit quantities, of course ad errors, close-outs, clearance and limited offers do not qualify)"

BUT ON TOP OF THAT:

I just got off the phone with 1-888-GO-DEPOT and asked them specifically about this issue. They told me in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that the manager is supposed to match the price of the Office Depot Web site. PERIOD.

I pretended like it was ME who was denied this price match. She said to go back to the store and tell the manager to call 1-888-GO-DEPOT and ask for a manager. The manager will set the B&M manager straight on the policy.

GO GET YOUR MONEY!
