But at the checkout desk, the guy asked where to use the RAM, when I told him for my DELL system, he told me the RAM won't work for DELL, the size of DELL's RAM is different from regular RAM and I won't be able to plug in it. I think that's rediculous and I insisted to buy it. But I'm still a little bit worry if it can work for my new coming Dimenstion4500. Anyone here has DELL Dimension 4500 with PC2100 RAM, could you help me take a look for the size of your RAM?
Thanks in advance.

Dell doesn't require special memory, but many Intel processor systems will not run well with cheaper memory. Give it a try and see...if it doesn't work, you can always take it back.

DEll 4500 is not picky. Any DDR PC2100 should work. I have a Dell 4400 and it'll take almost any DDR.

1. Never ever EVER believe anything you're told at Best Buy;

2. It WILL work;

3. Questions?

I pulled out my barebones 128MB from my new and VERY quiet Dell 4500 [my son says - it's so quiet it's spooky] and put in two Crucial 256MB DDR 266MHz CL2.5 PC2100 184-pin non-parity DIMMs. The Dell booted up fine, recognized memory, and then gave me the BSOD after a few minutes in XP. Hmm, and I had been blaming my GA-7DXR motherboard or TBird 1400 CPU on the crashes I had been having lately.....could it be the Crucial memory? I look at the Dell memory to compare it:

.....Dell: 128MB DDR 266MHz CL2.5 PC2100 184-pin non-parity DIMMs
Crucial: 256MB DDR 266MHz CL2.5 PC2100 184-pin non-parity DIMMs

Look the same and fit the same. Just different brand and amount of memory.

I get on the Crucial website and plug in Dell 4500: two banks of standard memory of 128, 256 or 512MB removable 184-pin DIMMs, DDR PC2100 CL2.5 non-parity. Sounds like what the Dell came with and what I have. It should work, but my guess is that my two sticks are cr@p and the mo'bd and CPU I was replacing with the Dell are good. Crickey!

I am in the progress of RMAing a 256 stick PC2100 crucial - I was getting a BAD POOL CALLER BSOD and it was telling me BIOS IS NOT FULLY ACPI COMPLIANT. I popped in some PNY value with ELIXIR chips and it booted fine with no errors. Limited lifetime warraties are good!

Got me extra 256 mb DDR for my DELL 4500 too, can't wait to get it, it's comming this week. Preparing for college. I was going to build a computer, but this deal was too too too.... good to pass up. So far, i got extra ram, optical mouse, and NIC waiting for it, and it was all free, actually, i'm getting paid a few dollars, that's after tax too. Yeah! Now i just need a new CDR, and Printer. College has Ethernet DSL, so no need for a modem, unless i find one for a good price and one that's a hardware one. Software winmodems suck, u can only connect at 28k or 33k with them, why do they even call them 56k anyway?

ps, already got the monitor too, have two to chose from, sitting in the garage. one 17 and one 15
