I think (not sure though) the reason it says that is because the mem is slow (this is why it is cheap) so it may not work with raid!

Also ram prices are way down but they are suposedly gona be going back up again soon

cas 2 is one step faster than cas 3 so cas 2 is better

I just ordered a 128MB stick of PC-100 for my Abit BP6. I was going to buy a 256 meg stick but all of the "cheap" 256MB sticks will not work with many Intel chipsets out there (including the BX). Interestingly enough, they also say if you have a K7 overclocked, you should buy the higher grade of memory. I wonder if that cheap 256MB memory is simply something to lure the customer in and have them buy something else.

The guy at JCShopper explained it and said that a higher grade of memory would be needed to use a 256MB stick in my BX motherboard. The higher grade memory was over $150 and I could not justify $150 for 256MB when I can get 128 for $52.

Cas3 or CL3 isn't much slower then cas2. It wouldn't have any affect on RAID performance.

For what it's worth, I have 4 sticks of 128mb ram in my computer.

All generic.

One PC66
Two PC100
One PC133


They are all "rated" at CAS3, but I run them fine at CAS2100mhz@, no stability issues.

Max mem.clock I can get is 117mhz using the pc66 module. If pull that, I can hit 133mhz fine (cas3).

I know quality RAM is important but people get into this CAS hype too much. Cas2 gives about 5 to 10 percent boost. I don't think it's worth a 60 to 80 percent premium in price.

Cas2 gives more like a 1-3% boost. The only place you'll notice it is in benchmarks.

This memory is made by SyncMax "www.syncMax.com". Make sure you check their website for the list of incompatiblities before you even think of buying this stuff.

I agree with csc2. You probably will never see the difference between cas2 and cas3.

I had 2 64mb modules with SyncMax chips that were nothing but trouble!

Barely stable at 100mhz and would crash all the time in Windows, and wasn't compatible with FIC boards. I traded up for 2 64mb pc-100 Hyundai chips and am now rock stable at 110mhz.

BEWARE of SyncMax!!!

How is it that they can make RAM that's soooo incompatible with many popular boards? Is it because it's 256 megs? It works on my ms 6309, but I don't think the overclocking potential of these chips will reach anything near the 150 i need.

ASUS A7V Issues

1.Your CPU temperature should be lower than 60C

2.Your BIOS version must be 1003 or 1004A (recommended)

3.Diamond MX300 and Aureal 3D Sound Card are not compatible with A7V

4.AGP setting must be matched with your Video Card. (2x or 4x)

5.Try Normal setting not Optimal setting in the BIOS.

6.Try manual setting for CPU speed.

7.Install VIA 4-in-1 driver.

8.Download latest driver for Promise controller from www.asus.com.tw/products/motherboard/socketA/a7v/index.html

9.Put your Sound Card in 3rd PCI slot.

10. Look up at the stars and wait for jupiter to cross the orion constellation.
