"Shipping weight in pounds: 51.1"

Ouch.....might be 5-10 lbs. for shipping material...that leave 40+ lbs for a bike......now that's a tank!

Yes, B&M too.

I bought it in Mountain View, CA B&M store. It does have a steel frame but It is not that heavy. I was able to easily pick it up and hang it on my car bike rack. This is not professional grade aluminium and god knows what @#$$ alloy featherweight bike.

This is Generic and Cheapmountain bike that seems to be good for the money. (Hey!! what else do you expect at this price and at Walmart?)

Good price.

Too bad it has cantilever brakes. One of the latest technological advances in bicycles over the past 5 years is v-brakes, which provides greater leverage than cantilevers. Greater leverage equals more braking power and there's virtually no cost increase.

I would be more worried that the brakes are adjusted properly than what technology it uses. I've seen some scary bike builds at department stores.

That thing looks dangerous....and 40 punds?? Geez. Even my low end Gary Fisher weighs in around 28 or so. But for a college campus, it might not be bad. I wouldn't ride it, but for $70 you wouldn't care much if it got pinched.

Not a bad price for a bike for beginner or workout purpose. Too bad 26 inches is a little bit too high for me. I found 24" for about the same price.

For the expert out there. I am about 5'8", so 24" should be okay for me. Right?

In terms of size, you want to watch out for wheel size vs. stem size... 26" wheels are in no way indicative of stem size, and it's stem size you want to watch out for. However, these low-end bikes are built for "average", so I'd bet it'll ride anyone from 5'5" to maybe 6' depending on saddle height adjustment... I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Of course, I'm new to this myself... so correct me if I'm wrong!

"Not a bad price for a bike for beginner or workout purpose. "

...hardly. I guarantee that it begins to fall apart after 2 rides. And you'd better be able to do your own repairs. Because getting it fixed correctly will cost you more than you paid for the bike itself.

Every couple of months, somebody posts a 'Hot Deal' on some department store bike or another. With nary an exception, these bikes are piles of doo-doo. They are built with the cheapest parts one can find. The frames are built out of steel pipe. And let's not even get started on the trained monkeys they have putting the bikes together in the store. I've seen people riding these things with the forks pointed the wrong direction, cuz that's how it was built by the mongoloid with the hammer and channel-locks at the depatment store.

If you want a boat anchor that will get you to the kwicky-mart and start to fall apart after a couple of weeks, this is indeed a 'Hot Deal'.

If you want a bike that will hold up for more than a couple of months (and is assembled correctly) go to your local bike shop, and pick up a low-end hybrid from any of the major manufacturers. You'll be able to get one for about $200-$250. And you'll be able to ride it more than twice.

Hey, its great transportation for student on budget, etc. I don't think it will fall apart after two rides for general use. Walllymart would get the crap sued out of them if it was falling apart and people are hurting themselves.

The only thing that bothers me that cause its a dual suspension people think they go out and rock hop, etc.

Anybody who knows mtn biking knows that good forks, suspension parts cost more than this bike.

i have personally road many bikes from walmart/toys r us ..cheap bikes..such as huffys and pacifics...the bikes wont fall apart on you.. i have a huffy that is still going strong after 6 + years....they are really good bikes for the price...but i wouldnt go out and take these bkes onto trails or anything outside the gentle ride down the street. riding even a low end gt/trek/cannon/giant is heavenly compare to these huffys...but they will get the job done. (i ride a gt)

I would not touch a dual suspension bike for under $400-$500. The suspension will do far more harm than good and there are just more things to break. Also, dual suspension bikes are only good for one thing really, off roading and don't expect to do any of that with this bike. For exercise purposes or for street use dual suspension systems have a habit of soaking up a lot of riders pedal power, so you wont go as fast or smooth. At any rate, if anyone does buy this bike have someone who actually knows what they are doing make sure it is assembled properly and safe.

I agree with the others here. It is not worth buying a cheap bike. My friend and his younger brother bought two cheap mountain bikes, one a rigid and the other a full suspension. The pedal on the FS was stripped and fell off in no time at all, and after a few months the rigid's front fork bent forward into an unusable position. Both bikes are now scrapped. I paid $200 for a rigid Trek about 5 years ago and its still riding fine, upgraded the fork to an RST 3" of suspension, a much better option (although more expensive) than the cheap Walmart and Target bikes.

I got a low-end Trek with front suspension used for about $150.... which is a good deal because when I am done with it, I can probably get my money back. That IMHO is a good deal.

I'm 5'5" and 26" bikes are also too big for me. Not the seat adjustment but the crank length. The lever substantially reduces my maximum torque on the top part of the cycle.

I'd rather have a well-fitted $60 cheapo bike than a $800 poorly fitted bike.

I'm not the expert but I think 26" wheel is kinda the standard size for adult bike. What you have to watch out for is the frame size. For 5'8", you should look for about 17" frame size for mountain bike. DON'T buy a bike before you 'test drive' it and make sure it fits your.

I agree, you cannot get a good one for cheap. By a hardtail for the same price. This bike is a piece of crap, I've ridden it, it weighs a ton, and just because it says it has Shimano's it does not mean anything. But if you're just using it to tool around town, I would still recomment a hardtail (just front suspension).

I used to work for Trek, where I wrote their "How To Buy a Bike" guide. We always stressed that the most important thing about your bike is safety, and the most important things about safety are fit and set-up. Are the staff at Walmart experts at making sure the bike you leave with is the right fit for you? Are they professionals at setting up and tuning bikes for maximum performance? If not, I'd take my money somewhere else.

You're better off walking then riding an unsafe bike. Nearly lost my best friend to a biking accident a few years ago. He was on a short ride around his nieghborhood when a car accidentally turned right into him. He would be dead if he didn't have good brakes and his helmet on. That could just as easily be you, your kid, your friend... make sure they ride with a helmet always.
