2600+ "barton" /shuttle MB $140 at Frys'

Frys has the 2600+ barton and shuttle Monbo for 139.99 as of today. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. How overclockable is this cpu and Mobo with some good ram cooler? I just bought it so any input would be appriciated. TIA

I saw the same deal, I see the CPU is a bare CPU, what Heatsink & Fan would be a good match? Hexus had a review of this Mobo this summer.

Per the ad in the LA Times, the mobo is a Shuttle AN35N-400. Extremetech used it to build it's budget box of the year. link to $800 computer

I just picked up a similar combo from Newegg back in late November. I got the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra and AMD 2500 Barton for 140 AR. The motherboard is very easy to overclock. I have mine overclocked to 3200 right now. I just bumped up my FSB to 400 and I got an instant xp 3200. The cool part is that I am doing it with 2 sticks of PC2100 Kingston Value Ram (FAR from Officemax during BF).

How different is the ultra compare to the one standard onr from frys? I fi can get mine to 3200+ i will be very happy. TIA

I believe the only significant difference is that the ultra has dual channel DDR support.

err, there isn't such thing as a 2600+ Barton. The only Bartons are 3200+, 3000+, 2800+, and 2500+. Also a few Athlon XP-M at 2200+ and 2400+

2600+ Barton Newegg they have been out for a little while.
If you think about it, AMD doesn't make any thoroughbreds any more, 2000+ is the lowest they make and they are bartons 512k cache cores with half disabled.

Fry's here in Sacramento had the deal for $149 today, and I picked it up. I get 2.1 Ghz with very cheap pc2700 ram (its so generic it has no name).

The Processor came RETAIL boxed with HSF and is unlocked.

Fry's usually has a combo but they do not use N-Force boards in them very often. They usually use cheap ECS.

If the CPU is unlocked, you should have access to all the FSB and Multiplier options through the bios. The motherboard manual should tell you which bios screens have multiplier and FSB information.

I built a computer for a friend & used this mobo. Overclocking was very easy & the computer never showed any signs of instability. I was surprized.
BTW: Stop posting Fry's specials....we don't have them in Florida & I get really jealous!

What's the major difference in the Shuttle AN35N and the AN35N-Ultra? I looked on newegg and tried to compare but I can't see it. Looking to build another system and this seems like a good deal. I bought the AMD2200+/ECS combo a few weeks ago and it's working fine, now I want another PC to OC and a friend wants me to build one.

Like I said, I think the only major difference between the AN35N-400 and the AN35N Ultra is that the Ultra has Dual Channel DDR support.

I tried it with both higher and lower multipliers (adjusting the FSB respectively) of between 11 and 13.5.
