Personally, I have always fund Zalman to have much better mounting kits than Coolermaster. Just my opinion. But I own a lot of Zalmans

I noticed you have an MSI board. It seems typical that the MSI boards read a little higher than the others. A little more time may tell as they populate through the forums. My temps on a Cooler Master Hyper TX2 with a 2500k at stock are 41c-43c at idle. I reseated my heatsink twice and checked the pattern of the ceramique and all looks good. I honestly don't think there is an issue with mine, or even yours. It could be a faulty mainboard sensor or bios flaw within MSI. If you are really concerned, hit a infrared thermometer on the backside.

If your heatsink it moving around too much, it sometimes means you are applying too much compound which in turn is making it swim around in goop and holding heat in.

I have had that happen to me once before as well. D:

Are you reading the temp of the cpu from the bios or from a program in windows, like core temp? I understand the bios temp isn't exactly idle temps. I am going to reseat it again and use less thermal paste to see if it can be fixed, its just bizarre.

Are you planning to OC? If not, your current temps are well within spec (even though they could be lower.)

I had bought the cooler in hopes of having lower temps to assist in helping the overclock. I have tested it at 4.5ghz with idle temps hovering around 45c and with Prime95 the max it got to was 75c. It seems way too high for what other people have encountered with this combo of cpu and heatsink.

From the Bios and when I read it in Core Temp in Windows it is around 28 - 33c. Speedstep is enabled.

I've seen a Core i7 2600 having idle at 40C and max at 60C before. I find it a bit odd and seemed a little high to me since it is an aftermarket heatsink. Most probably the TIM supplied with the CM Hyper212+ is old and is a little bad at doing its job. I will see whether reapplying with a different TIM like the CM NanoFusion that I have lying around will make the temps go down a little.
